After we left the beach on Monday, July 9th, we stopped in Washington DC!
Dylan and Lexie were so excited to see our nation's capital! We had planned to spend a night or two in DC, but with Lily being so sick, we decided to save our longer trip for a later date.
Once we arrived in DC, we found a parking spot, and then stopped in the park to eat lunch. The kids were amazed by the squirrels, geese, and ducks that came right up to you!
After lunch, we went on a mini tour. Dylan and Lexie loved seeing all the things they had learned about in school!
There is one incredible moment that I'll never forget. When we walked into the World War II Memorial, Dylan stared at the pictures along the wall. He walked up to one, stood perfectly still, and then saluted the soldiers. I had tears in my eyes as he did it, and I still tear up just thinking about it!
My boy. He is growing up, but he still has such a big heart, and is full of empathy and understanding beyond his years.
We continued on our tour, and, of course, Dylan's salute caught on with the younger crowd.
Finally, we visited the Vietnam War Memorial for my dad. Dylan remembered to touch the wall for my dad, just as he was told before we left.
Our visit to DC was brief, but we had a good time! We can't wait to go back!
With that, our trip (sadly) came to an end.
DC isn't very far away PA, but we still stopped for dinner halfway through the drive. It was a much needed break, considering Lily had a massive blowout that required paper towels, wipes, baggies, and assistance from my friends!
After dinner, we got back in the car for the short trip back home. Dylan and Lily fell asleep right away, but Lexie was wide awake!
The last hour in the car was rough. Lily was done with the trip, and screamed the entire hour. Grant and I could do nothing but laugh.
As we drove the last leg of our trip, we had the perfect view of a gorgeous sunset.
We made it home around 9:00 that night. It felt nice to be home, but we sure missed the beach!
Other than the fact that Lily was sick for the duration of our trip, we had a great time! Many wonderful memories were made! It wasn't perfect, and definitely wasn't long enough, but I loved our first vacation as a family of five!
Beautiful phtography, Stef! That diaper blowout sounds...impressive!
