Slow Down, Time

Dylan had his Kindergarten preview today, and Lexie began the last week of her 2's. This time, next week, I will have a 3 year old!

Dylan was excited to go to the preview. As we passed his preschool this morning, he said, "I guess I won't have to go back there again!" I think he assumed he was starting Kindergarten today!

Yeah, he's ready to fight the Sith. (Note to self: Buy a new table. Your kids are probably at the age where they won't destroy it.)

Dylan's school is very nice. I had never been there before today. It's bright, cheerful, and colorful. The building he will be in is a primary center, which means it holds just Kindergarten and 1st grade. It's small, so it's not overly intimidating.

Today, he took a tour of the school. He got to sit in a kindergarten classroom, play in the gym, do an art project in the cafeteria with the art teacher (they made tie-dye baby wipes-quick and easy!), and then read a book with the librarian and colored bookmarks in the library. Before leaving, we picked up his registration packet to fill out.

I held back tears all afternoon. I don't want to let him go, but I know I have to.

Dylan and I ran a few errands before picking up Lexie at my sister's house. The birthday party favors and decorations are bought, I picked up the finishing touches for Lexie's adorable birthday outfit, and Dylan bought her a present (the Mermaid Barbie that she saw on TV, of course).

Lexie had a great time with my sister and her cousins, and didn't want to leave! We couldn't visit more than a few minutes, because it started to snow, and we were supposed to get a lot overnight.

Sure enough, we got a storm. It was terrible in a matter of minutes. It took almost an hour to make the 20 minute drive home, and I was shaking the entire time. I am officially sick of snow. Luckily, my babes fell asleep in the car, and didn't sense my tension and fear.

Not only are we snowed in, but we are caged in. Grant removed the icicles from the back of the house, but wanted to see how big the ones in front would get. I'd say they're big enough.

Maybe someday I'll have my front porch back. For now, we're stuck using the garage to let people in. I doubt they'd want to wade through 2+ feet of snow, anyway.

Little Lexie Bean had so much fun with her cousins, that she spent hours conked out on the couch. She finally woke up at 6 pm, which meant she stayed up until 10 tonight.

Once she fell asleep, I began wrapping her birthday presents! She's going to LOVE everything we bought for her! I can't wait to celebrate her birthday, but on the other hand, I wish time would slow down. Just a bit.

  2. I can relate with wanting time to slow down. I feel like Lillian is growing up so fast! I am glad the school is nice and hope it made you feel more at ease as you prepare for the transition.

  6. I know, Ava starts school this year to and as excited as I am for her, I am also sad for me. I feel like she won't be a little baby anymore when she starts school. But I guess this is just one of those many steps that they have to take towards independence.
