Baby #4

I just wanted to say thank you for all the congratulations, well wishes, and emails that we received over our announcement last week!  We are very excited to welcome baby #4 into our family!

I will start out by saying that this baby was a surprise!  We had discussed the possibility of having a 4th child in the future, but we were not thinking of even discussing it until Lily was 3 or 4.  Once the initial shock wore off, we realized that the timing of this baby is absolutely perfect!

Shortly after Grant and I met, we had a conversation about how many kids we wanted to have. I immediately blurted out 4.  There was no reason behind it.  I just always imagined myself with 4 kids.  He laughed, and said he was thinking more along the lines of 1 or 2, but we would see what the future would hold for us.

We now know!  When we actually realized that we were, indeed, having a 4th child, Grant was the one who was immediately happy and accepting of the news.  I was the one who was in shock.  I honestly think it had more to do with the horrible morning sickness than anything else.  Having Hyperemesis is hard enough to deal with when you are expecting it, but when it just hits you out of the blue...I think it makes it more difficult, because you aren't mentally prepared.  It took about a month before I got excited, and now everything is falling perfectly into place.  Well, except for the fact that I'm still incredibly sick, but given my track record, that's not going away any time soon!

With this pregnancy, there was no "Oh my goodness, I'm pregnant!!!" moment that involved a pregnancy test.  The truth is, I never even took a test!  The Hyperemesis, coupled with a missed period, was enough of a sign for me. Grant kept asking if I was every going to test, but there really wasn't a point! There is no mistaking it for anything else!!!

My actual confirmation was at my OB appointment when I heard the heartbeat.  That sound? It was the most beautiful sound in the world.  Just as I did with my previous pregnancies, I teared up upon hearing the first few precious beats. I think that sound will always be amazing, whether it's your first baby or your tenth!

I am now 13.5 weeks pregnant, and this sweet baby is due September 6th!  We are looking forward to becoming a family of SIX!

  1. That sound is the best!

You are correct that there is no mistake when you have hyperemesis.

Maybe this time it will ease a bit this time?!

  11. What!? I had no idea you had hyperemesis. My mom and both sisters had it, I was miserably sick, but not to the extent they were.

You will be in my thoughts, I am sending good vibes your way :)

  16. Yeah, I would say those two symptoms are a sure sign of pregnancy! What else would it be?? I was like you, nausea settled in even before my missed period. I guess some people are just super sensitive to it, lucky us, hmmm?? I sure hope yours lets up earlier than it did last time. Keep us posted!

  21. Wow. What a shock. I'm sorry you are already sick. That really sucks. I have a friend that had a zofran pump because she had hyperemesis with all three of her pregnancies and it really worked well for her. Have you considered that?
