Our Five Ring Circus: Already worth it!

Already worth it!

On Monday, Grant took a vacation day from work, so we surprised the kids by taking them back to the Pittsburgh Zoo. They didn't know where we were going until we pulled into the parking lot. Our zoo membership has already paid for itself. We would have spent more money on admission for our last two visits, than for our membership! Buying a membership was definitely worth it!

We learned two valuable lessons after our zoo trip 3 weeks ago. 1) Leave the stroller at home. 2) Pack a lunch. Lexie walking the entire way and our packed lunch worked out well! Now, we just need to buy backpacks, because our bag was a bit uncomfortable to carry!

The kids love climbing on this!

Checking out the lions.

This ostrich was completely bizarre.

The giraffes were hilarious. They kept trying to knock each other over by leaning against each other, and were wrestling with their necks!

The gorillas were very active and fun to watch! The one in front kept trying to put a stick on his back and walk around, but the stick kept falling off. He was getting so frustrated!

We stopped for lunch, and Grant and the kids entertained each other by making funny faces.

The beautiful PPG aquarium is one of our favorite spots in the zoo.
Talk about an ugly fish.
A few shots with mommy and daddy.

The kids love the underwater crawl through tunnel.

Lexie was surprised to see us above the water.

We took a brief break so the kids could play in Kids Kingdom.

How cute was this mama beaver with her babies?
Lexie gave the turtle a very serious kiss before walking away.

I wanted to bring this cute little thing home with us! ;)

Checking out the Llama.
The boys took a train ride while Lexie took a serious poop. Yuck.

It was another successful visit. We got to see feeding time for the penguins and the sea lions, and lots of baby animals. We all had a great time, and we're looking forward to going back soon!

We left the zoo, happy, but tired. The kids loved their new treats. Lexie picked out a purple bush baby, which she hasn't put down since Monday, and Dylan got another toy frog. That's his newest obsession!

It didn't take long for them to fall asleep.

Yet another great day!

  2. That "ugly fish" is not a fish at all, but a member of the same family as squid and octopus, called a cuttlefish. Ok, I'm putting away my nerdy self now...

I love trips to the zoo. We went on Sunday and it was so muggy, but we still had a great time. Natey walked most of the way too, but when I want to leave I love being able to stick him in the stroller for a speedy exit!!

  7. Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwww, great pics of a super-fun day! That picture of Lexie kissing the turtle scared me though. I thought it was a REAL turtle, and I was like "you let her get THAT close?" ha ha ha

  8. That is one ugly whatever-kameron-said-it-is! I think the zoo membership is a great idea. It allows the kids and you to take time each visit to appreciate what you see, rather than rushing through to do it all in one trip. Very cute pics!
