Late Night Rambling

This 2:00 AM post is brought to you by pregnancy insomnia!

Oh, it's bad right now.  I simply can't fall asleep.  It's funny, too, because the baby has finally moved into an extremely comfortable position.  I'm sick everyday and I have strong, frequent contractions, but when the baby is still, I can't even tell I have a baby in there!  Once I fall asleep, I stay asleep.  It's getting there that's the problem!

For now, I'm on my own from 11 PM, when Grant goes to bed, until 3 or 4 AM, when I finally feel tired.  And then the alarm goes off at 6 or 7 AM, and I toss and turn until the first kid wakes up!  I have to say, though,  I'm getting a lot done in the wee hours of the morning!

So here are a few tidbits about life lately:

*Lexie went to my parent's house yesterday, and she will be staying there until Friday.  They took Dylan two weeks ago for 4 days and spoiled him.  Lexie was so excited for her turn to stay with them, and she's having a great time!

*Grant, Lily, and I went out to dinner tonight.  My parents came by to pick Dylan up to go swimming with them.  They would have taken Lily, too, but she was sleeping at the time.  It was awesome to spend time with just her, though.  She was an angel at the restaurant, and had us laughing as she repeatedly sprinkled pepper on her palm, licked it off, and said, "Peppah...yummy!"

*Speaking of Lily, she has had a vocabulary explosion over the past 2 weeks.  She's saying 5-10 new words a day.  I'm so glad she finally pulled that thumb out of her mouth and started to talk more!

*My Braxton Hicks contractions are really starting to pick up in strength, frequency, and intensity. While this would worry a lot of people, for me, it's normal. I have this fun irritable uterus condition.  Every time I move, my uterus gets as hard as a rock. I get them while resting.  As soon as I wake up, my uterus contracts.  They mimic regular labor contractions, which is why I didn't think I was in labor with Lily. Or Lexie. Or Dylan. I feel as if I have the world's longest labors!  I start contracting in the first trimester, I start dilating by 28 weeks, and the contractions just keep getting stronger. Just for the record, bed rest and stopping exercise has done nothing to decrease them in the past.  Trust me, we've tried!!!  So I just carry on, and hope I make it to the hospital in time, when it's time!!!

*I have been asked several times about what it's like to have hyperemesis.  I've attempted to write about it on many occasions, but just end up staring at a blank screen.

*The kids rooms have finally been switched!  I'm almost done with Dylan's room, and I'm hoping to finish the girls' room this weekend!  So far, my dad and I have installed a ceiling fan/light fixture in Dylan's room and I refinished a chandelier (one of my late night projects) and we hung that up in the girls' room.  I went on a toy organization shopping binge, and I'm so happy we did.  Just a tip...pop up hampers work great for toy storage!!! The only thing left to do is touch up the paint in Dylan's room, spray paint a few items, and hang things on his walls, and paint the girls' room and hang some window blinds and new curtains.  Everything looks great so far!

* Next up?  Setting up the baby's area in our bedroom. That's easy! Completing the bathroom and the basement will follow.  Grant is thrilled.  And slightly terrified by my nesting insanity.

*Our to do list is insane.  Seriously.

*The staff at my OB office adore my kids.  They are a sweet bunch!  Dylan loves to chat with the nurses, Lexie shows off her outfits, and Lily always runs over to say hi to them as soon as we arrive.  I go back in just over a week for my 34 week appointment, and that's when my weekly internals begin, so the kids will be staying home!  I'm sure they'll be missed, but it's just too awkward for me!

*The husband and I are watching Cheers on Netflix.  We like to pick a series and watch it from Season 1 Episode 1 until the very end.  I remember hating that show when my parents watched it, but now I see why they liked it so much!

*Lily turns 2 in just over 2 weeks.  How is that even possible?!?

On that note, I'm off to bed!  I have another day of checking things off our list and enjoying the summer with my sweet babies ahead of me!

Life is crazy right now.  But good.  So good!

  1. I remember the frustrating insomnia. I used to take half a unisom on really rough nights and it helped me fall asleep.

  7. Wow, I can't believe how close you are to full-term. Where did the time go? I know you will look forward to not feeling nauseous anymore. It sounds like you're still nesting; I remember those days. I got a lot accomplished back then. (lol)
