Summer's End

Our summer is rapidly coming to an end. Dylan and Lexie start school next week! Dylan will be in first grade-his first year going to school ALL day-and Lexie will be starting her first year of school. She will be attending Pre-K on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings.

It's going to be strange without them! Even though I know it's time (they have been fighting daily!), I know I'm going to miss them. Especially my big boy! On the positive side, it will be nice to have alone time with Lily three mornings a week!

Due to my pregnancy and not being able to travel far away this summer (doctors orders), we didn't get to go anywhere. I do feel bad about this, because we all look forward to vacation every summer. I tried to make up for it by taking the kids swimming, to the park, and to the library as much as I could! Of course, they got an incredible gift in return...Lily...and they are still head over heels in love with her!

Speaking of Lily, she is feeling much better today! She started to have problems nursing, so we knew her tongue needed to be cut as soon as possible.

It was incredibly difficult for us to go through, and obviously painful for her. The doctor did send us out of the room during the procedure. I stood in the hallway crying along with her, and my heart broke when I walked back in and saw all the blood in her mouth. The worst part was the fact that she was struggling to breathe (side effect of the medication they used). I felt helpless as she gasped for air and gurgled the blood in her mouth. She was much better after about 20 minutes, but I still tear up when I think about it!

I'm happy to say that it has already helped. She's having a much easier time nursing, and seems fascinated by the fact that she can now stick her tongue out!

On a more serious note, Grant's dad had a heart attack last night. He is currently in the ICU. He has been struggling with some serious health issues for the past month. Grant and his family are having a very difficult time dealing with it right now. We are praying for a miracle!

This summer flew by! It didn't seem to during the last days of my pregnancy, but it really did. It's evident that summer is nearing an end, due to some of the cool nights we've had! It's so hard to believe that in the next few days my baby will be turning 1 month old, and my older two will be heading off to school!

I'm trying to embrace every moment, because it really does go by so fast!

  1. Many prayers for Grant's dad and the whole family. My dad had a massive heart attack when Buddy turned 1 and he had to undergo a very long surgery, but he made it through and is doing great now. I hope for the same for Grant's dad.

Cherish those moments with Lily! I was wondering if Lexi was in kinder this year or preschool. Such a big girl, I bet she'll love it.

  5. Having our kids go through medical procedures is heartbreaking! I'll never forget the first time Itty Bit went under anesthesia... Mom's hearts aren't built for that!

Hope Lily and Grant's Dad are well soon!

  10. I can't imagine - that must have been horrible to watch :( I'm glad that it is already having a positive effect for her though! And I'm so sorry about Grant's dad - my thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family!

  11. Prayers for him. Hugs for all.

Enjoy your alone time with Lily! We try to have individual time with each kid. As a ft working couple it gets hard. There are not enough hours in the day sometimes. Dylan will love first grade (Dom did) and Lexie will enjoy prek. :) All Moms enjoy the first couple weeks of back to school...minus the paperwork and early mornings, that is!

  12. I hope it is a good school year for them both. I know it is bittersweet! While it is easier to do things with just one (grocery store and etc.) you sure miss them while they're at School!

  13. Congratulations to you on your newest member of the family! My thoughts and prayers, however, are with your husband. I hope his dad makes it through and gets better! Sometimes life works in strange ways...the timing, I'm sure, couldn't be any worse...XOXO.

  16. Hope everyone is hangin' in there! Prayers for all of you!
My boys started all-day kindergarten just before Daisy was born so I got to have lots of alone time with her. By the 3rd baby you realize how fast everything goes and cherishing every moment is so important!
