Two Year Appointment

Lexie went in for her 2 year appointment today...just a month and a half late. The poor little girl hates doctors now, thanks to all the appointments, poking, and prodding. Despite the constant diarrhea and anemia, she's doing great! She weighed 26.5 lbs and was 36.5 inches. I never really think she's tall, but she is...no wonder her pants don't fit her anymore! ;)

As for the diarrhea, we still have no real answers. All of her tests are coming back normal, although we are waiting on a result. Right now, we are cutting out one food each week from her diet, to see if we notice an improvement. This shouldn't take too long, considering how picky she is. I just wish we could do the food allergy testing now. The elderly pediatrician that we saw for the first time today seems to think that she just has "toddlers diarrhea" which she'll grow out of sometime before she's 5. (Hahaha...FIVE?) However, Lexie's main pediatrician spoke to us after the appointment and told me to continue seeing the Pediatric GI specialist, because the extreme bloating and pus are not consistent with toddlers diarrhea. So we are waiting for her next appointment there.

I have some good news to share about her...according to her doctor, she is speaking at a 3 year old level. He was very surprised by her vocabulary and how well she talks. I'm not surprised...the girl NEVER SHUTS UP. She talks nonstop from the moment she wakes up until the moment she goes to bed. Life is definitely not quiet with Lexie around!

My dad started his cancer treatment today. It will continue for 5 more weeks, and then he may need one more round. Luckily, it's not chemo or radiation, so he won't have any side effects. I do feel bad for him, though. He was laid off from his job today, and he really liked working there. He already has a great pension from a previous retirement, but retirement just isn't for him. He's very upbeat about it, though, and says he's going to find something to do! I'm sure he will!

  1. I am no doctor, but I wonder if Lexie might have a wheat gluten allergy. My younger sister and one grandma are afflicted. If they do eat gluten, which hides in A LOT of non-bread foods like processed soups and salad dressings, they have cramping, bloating, diarrhea. Just an idea...I can't even imagine having to deal with this until she is five! Hopefully an answer will be found soon.

  2. I am also not a doctor, but I agree with Julie! Have you asked your ped for a referral to an allergist, too? Good luck, and don't give up on pushing for a diagnosis! Libby

  3. Thanks for the suggestions. I think allergy testing is the next step. They did do a celiac panel, which came back negative, but it is possible she could be allergic to wheat gluten. Hopefully we'll get some answers soon!
