We have been thoroughly enjoying the last full week of summer vacation! We have had sleepovers, went to the park, got ice cream, had a movie night, went to a museum, had dinner with friends, and had a full day of swimming. More on that later.
In the midst of all the fun, we had some back to school activities!
It's hard to believe that Dylan is going into 2nd grade, and Lexie, who was my baby for 4 1/2 years, is starting Kindergarten. I'm not going to lie. That is hitting me hard!
Last night, Lexie had Kindergarten Orientation. Lexie got Mr. Richards, the teacher that everybody wants, for Kindergarten! Our friend, Audrey, had him for Kindergarten, and assured Lexie that he is awesome. She even came along last night for moral support for her brother, Jack, and for Lexie!
Lexie was a bit nervous, but she did great! She gave her teacher an enthusiastic hello, found her seat, found her backpack shelf, then sat on the reading mat with her classmates. One of the kids from her preschool class is in her class, so she was happy to see a familiar face! After her teacher was done speaking to us, she looked around her classroom, and played with some of the toys.
The first day is going to be hard for both of us, but I know she's going to love school! He seems like a wonderful, fun teacher, and assures us that his class will be reading by Christmas!
Dylan went to Lexie's school for the past two years, so I have seen Lexie's teacher many times before. At the orientation, he told us all about himself. I began to do the math, and realized we were around the same age, and would have gone to the same school. I always thought he looked familiar, but figured it was just from seeing him around Dylan's school. I didn't know his first name before last night. If I had, I would have made the connection! Once home, I took a quick look at my high school yearbook, and confirmed that we did graduate together! Oops! On my behalf, we did have 500 kids in our class, and it has been over a decade since graduation!
Dylan actually won't get to meet his teacher until the first day of school. We don't even have orientation for him until after school starts. He is moving to a new building this year, so today, we took a tour.
It took us quite a bit of time to find his classroom. The new school is much bigger than I thought! He was a bit nervous that he wouldn't be able to find his room on the first day, but I assured him that teachers would be there to help!
Once we found his room, we took a look at the class list. He knows more than half of the kids in his class, many of which he played baseball with!
Dylan loves school, so I know he's going to have another great year!
We stopped at Lexie's school one more time, so she could find her classroom on her own! She found it easily, and seemed to gain confidence overnight!
As we were walking out of the building, I got tears in my eyes. My second-grader, Kindergartener, and baby were all walking alongside me. When did they get so big?!?
It's hard to believe the first day of school is just days away!
This gave me goose bumps. I have no idea how they grow so quickly. Gary would call it miracle grow! I know the kids will have a great first day.

Wow. Time does fly! It's great to see that they're so excited about their first day. I'm going to be a weeping mess when it's time for my little boy to enter kindergarten next year... By the way, I love the girls' dresses. Your kids are so adorable.
