Today was the annual family reunion!
The reunion was for my dad's side of the family...which is HUGE! So big, in fact, that I don't even know the names of half the people there. I just know we're related. ;)
That side of the family really loves a good party! The festivities started at noon, and didn't end until...well, I'm not quite sure. We left at 11, and the party was still going on!
I had a great time visiting with my family, and the kids had a blast running around with all of the cousins. There are dozens of young kids in the family, so they played all day!
There was another Lexie and a brand new Dylan in the family, and the kids thought that was hilarious!
The reunion was held at a park, next to a big playground, baseball fields, and basketball courts. There were plenty of things for the kids to do, including organized games and egg hunts (eggs filled with silly bandz, of course). Lots of water balloons, water guns, and foam water pumps were involved. I don't think anybody managed to stay dry!
I took a lot of pictures, but will just share a few!

Fighting over the favorite playground toy:
Lexie and my cousin's daughter, Megan, were inseparable. Megan took care of her the entire day! Megan is Lexie's new BFF. I want to adopt that girl!
One of the most anticipated activities is the horse races. It's a big deal every year! My family has been doing this for as long as I can remember!
Megan helped Lexie with her race. Lexie and the little girl next to her look remarkably alike for being distant cousins!
Then it was the elders turn. My Grandma and her siblings used to run this race. Only half of the siblings remain. Now some of their (eldest) children run the race in their place. My dad represents my Grandma's family!
After it got dark, the kids went snipe hunting and played "restaurant" in the shelter kitchen!
I knew it was time to go when I saw Lexie falling asleep on a picnic table, while Megan rubbed her back! Sure enough, she passed out in the car on the way home!
We all had fun catching up with each other and laughing over old pictures! It was a great day with my family!
It looks like you guys had quite the fun day at the reunion! Those girls do look alike which is so neat considering they are distant cousins!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great party!! I love the "horse race" idea.
ReplyDeleteLooks like so much fun! My family isn't nearly that huge and Jason's family is in some kind of "will and trust fund" feud so family reunions just don't happen for us. But they look like a blast!
ReplyDeleteSounds fun.. We had ourfamily reunion a few weeks ago and i so need to post!

ReplyDeletethat looks SO fun and brings back memories of our big italian reunions...we used to have them MUCH more, but I guess the older generations are ready for the younger generation(me and family) to take over! At least you all get to visit, even if you don't know their names, right?! It's ALL family :)
ReplyDeleteTotally takes our family reunions to shame! We sit and talk about the same stuff..year after year...blah! I am glad you had a great time!
