A Step in the Right Direction
Lexie was thisclose to needing to see a food therapist. At her 3 year checkup, the pediatrician issued an ultimatum: She must show some improvement by her 4th birthday, or begin food therapy.
Lexie's food issues began around 13-14 months. She was a wonderful eater up until that point, so I'm not quite sure what went wrong. Her issues got worse as she got older, and it got to the point where she had (and still has) multiple deficiencies from not eating well. She was diagnosed with a pediatric feeding disorder.
As you can imagine, her eating issues have been a huge source of stress and worry for me. Her 4th Birthday is next month, and I was certain that food therapy was in her future.
On Tuesday night, after almost 3 years of trying to get her to eat (and I mean, we tried EVERYTHING), we had a huge breakthrough! Dylan asks her every day if she wants to try something that he's eating, and she refuses. As usual, he asked her at dinner if she would like to try something: a piece of popcorn shrimp. Instead of her typical denial, she actually said yes. We all watched in surprise as she took a bite, then polished off the entire thing. We were shocked when she asked for more!
We were thrilled with this giant step, but I was convinced it was a one-time deal.
Today, I was making spaghetti-O's for Dylan's lunch. Lexie came into the kitchen, pointed to the can, and said that she wanted some. I gave her a bowl, and was shocked when she polished it off! This was the first time that she has ever had tomato sauce!
While I'm not expecting a miracle, I am pleased with the turn of events. This might seem small to most, but for parents of a child who has barely eaten anything in 3 years, this is a BIG deal!
Daddy brought her home a little stuffed kitty and conversation heart candy to reward her for being such a big girl!!!

Not An Ordinary Snow Day
Today was Dylan's first snow day, and although it was a terrible day (for me-details below), the kids loved it!
Yesterday, we were under a storm watch. I sent Dylan to school, but shortly after he left, the snow started. I am really surprised his school district didn't dismiss early, because the roads were absolutely terrible!
I waited for a half hour for his bus to arrive. Grant left work early, to avoid all the traffic, and arrived home before Dylan did. I wasn't relieved until my boy climbed off the bus!

Once our family was safe inside, we made the most of getting snowed in. We all put on our pajamas, put an easy dinner in the oven, and cuddled up on the couch to watch Megamind.

After the movie, a spontaneous dance party ensued. The kids were so wound up, that it was hard to convince them to go to bed!

I can't think of a better way to spend an evening snowed in with my family!
Before bed, we got the call that Dylan's school had a 2 hour delay. By this morning, they changed it to a closing. Honestly, I'm not sure why. The roads were fine by late morning, and we got less than 6 inches of snow. Either way, Dylan was thrilled!
Today wasn't great, though. I spent the entire day worrying. My dad was scheduled to go in for a procedure to check his heart. The doctors were convinced that they'd end up doing a simple surgical procedure after they checked everything out. I spent the entire morning waiting for updates.
Meanwhile, I got a phone call from one of my sisters, telling me that two of my sisters and my nephew were in a car accident, and headed to the ER. More waiting. My nephew was the first one to be released, and my sisters were just released. Thank God they are okay, other than some minor injuries!
Unfortunately my dad's simple procedure didn't go as expected. He will now need a triple bypass. He has pre-surgical tests scheduled for next Wednesday, and they will schedule his surgery then. He will spend almost a week in the hospital, followed by a 6 week recovery. A month after he recovers, they will do another surgery to unblock his carotid arteries.
I am trying to hold it together, but it's hard. It's my dad. He's the strongest person I know. The next few weeks are going to be incredibly difficult for my family, so please keep us in your thoughts and prayers.
Moving on...No snow day would be complete without actually spending time in the snow!

Dylan and Lexie really need to learn a lesson: If they tease big dog, big dog will knock them down the hill! Case in point:

It was cold and windy, but the kids had so much fun!

I think Dylan's hoping for another snow day!

10 weeks/OB appointment
I finally hit double digits today! If this pregnancy is anything like my others, that means I'm over 1/4 of the way through!
I went to the doctor this afternoon for my monthly checkup. The doctor wasn't certain that we'd be able to hear the heartbeat, since I'm only 10 weeks, but we heard it, loud and clear!!! Little Nugget has a strong heartbeat! It was the most beautiful sound, and I admit that I choked up when I heard it! Grant was so excited...I'm so happy he was able to make it to the appointment!
Hearing that heartbeat makes all the weeks of nausea and vomiting worth it!
DATE: January 10, 2011
How far along: 10 weeks
Total Weight Gained: None.
How big is baby? About the size of a kumquat. Baby is about 1 1/4 inches long.
How baby is growing: Your baby has now completed the most critical portion of his development. He's swallowing fluid and kicking up a storm. Vital organs — including his kidneys, intestines, brain, and liver (now making red blood cells in place of the disappearing yolk sac) — are in place and starting to function. Tiny nails are forming on fingers and toes (no more webbing) and peach-fuzz hair is beginning to grow on tender skin. Your baby's limbs can bend now. His hands are flexed at the wrist and meet over his heart, and his feet may be long enough to meet in front of his body. The outline of his spine is clearly visible through translucent skin, and spinal nerves are beginning to stretch out from his spinal cord.
Best Pregnancy Moment of the Week: Hearing the heartbeat!
Movement: Not certain yet, but I know I'll be feeling the baby move soon!
Food Craving: Sour watermelon gummies.
Food Aversions: Everything else, especially drinks.
Morning Sickness: Getting worse. I got another prescription for Zofran.
Gender: Unknown, and not finding out!
Symptoms: Nausea morning to night, gagging, vomiting, crying, and stomachaches (thanks to ahem, constipation).
What I miss: Eating!
What I'm looking forward to: Feeling the baby move, and the morning sickness (hopefully) going away!
I'm starting to get a little belly. A lot of it is still due to bloat, because it increases and decreases in size throughout the day.

I can't forget my first babies! Some pictures from today...

Same Old Busy
I thought life would calm down with the arrival of the New Year. Apparently, I was wrong! Instead, life just got busier. My weeks are now packed!
This weekend was busy as usual. I spent some time with my parents on Friday. My dad celebrated his 71st birthday on Thursday. Dylan got to see him, but Lexie and I didn't, so we celebrated again on Friday. After a S-L-O-W drive home on snow-covered roads, my kids were slap happy, and not quite ready for bed!

On Saturday, we packed up our Christmas decorations. The kids went outside to play in the snow with Grant, while I worked inside. I was a bit sad to put away everything, but it was nice to reclaim our living room!
After that, we headed to a birthday party for Dylan and Lexie's buddy, Jack. Jack and Dylan love playing together, and Jack came up with a great solution. He said that if he and Lexie got married, he and Dylan could be brothers! Lexie? Not so convinced!

They kids passed out after a late night partying with their buddies. Today, we spent time with Grant's family, watching the playoffs. Grant is just a bit obsessed with football! ;)
Surprisingly, the kids still had a ton of energy, even after their busy weekend!

Now, it's bedtime for my sweet little rugrats. Mommy needs a break before another busy week begins!

If The Cup Fits
It's almost time to pack away our Christmas decorations, so I had to see if the kids still fit in the infamous Christmas mug!
I have been taking pictures of them in the mug since Lexie's first Christmas. Surprisingly, they still fit!

Lexie thought it was the funniest thing at first, and then I got this look:

I wonder how long they'll cooperate? ;)
Oh well, next year I'll have a new little one to cram in the mug!

The Story of Nugget
I've been asked several times if we were trying to get pregnant, and the answer is yes! This is our first 100% planned baby!
Dylan was not planned, but he was exactly what we needed in our lives at that time! Lexie was a one-try deal. We were not planning on trying for a second baby for several more months, but Grant convinced me to try just one day (Father's Day...ha!), and it worked! We had planned on TTC our third child in the Fall of 2009, but after a rough year with Lexie's health issues, we postponed it.
After our rough patch this summer, Grant and I worked our butts off to reconnect. In late September, Grant brought up the idea of having our third baby, but I wasn't quite open to the idea just yet.
One afternoon, shortly after that, I was taking a nap with Lexie. My eyes kept popping open to stare at a picture hanging on Grant's wall. It was a picture of our family that Dylan drew for him. Something was missing from that picture.

Then, it hit me! Another child! It was at that moment that I realized I wanted another baby. In early October, we decided it was time to TTC!
About a week before Halloween, I had all the pregnancy symptoms. I took a pregnancy test on Halloween morning, 5 days before my missed period, and it came back positive. We were so excited, but the next day, I began bleeding. The bleeding lasted less than 24 hours. A few days later, I took another test and it came back negative. We were so disappointed, and unsure of what happened. The doctor later said it was either a defective test combined with an early (and unusually short) period, or a very early miscarriage. We decided we would keep TTC.
On the morning of December 2nd, which would have been my Grandma's 90th birthday, I woke up early, and I just knew. I had been feeling sick for about a week, and it was time to test. The positive result was immediate! I left a note on the bathroom sink for Grant to find when he woke up. "Dear Daddy, I can't wait to meet you! August 8th, 2011."
We were both so thrilled! Grant immediately began to call the baby Nugget, and the rest is history!
Now for the daily dose of my other babies:

I can't wait to see if Nugget is going to join Team Pink or Team Blue!

The Daily Dose of Dylan and Lexie
Last year, one of my goals was to take at least one picture of each of my kids every day, and to learn the bells and whistles on the, ahem, $1300 camera that I upgraded to.
Sadly, I failed. While I did take a lot of pictures, and read the camera manual, days would often go by before I even touched my camera. This year, I'm going to try harder! I won't be posting every picture I take, but I'm doing it for my own benefit. I'm also going to really attempt to shoot in manual most of the time.
Here's hoping I stick to my plan!
**********
We're back to the daily grind. Dylan was more than happy to return to school yesterday, and we're getting back into the swing of things. I dusted off my treadmill, after a one month break, and started off with a 2 mile run. It completely got my mind off of the nausea! While I'm only allowed to work out a few days a week, and have to limit my miles, it felt good! Now, my "overactive" uterus just has to cooperate. As soon as it starts throwing fits, my running is over, and I'll be really sad!
I took the kids in for their second dose of the flu mist today, and my dad tagged along. I think I'm going to drag him to every appointment! I had to hold Lexie down to get it done last month, and this time, my dad held her, and she completely cooperated! What?!?
I love spending afternoons with my baby girl. I'm so glad I get this time with her before she goes off to school in the fall. I had my alone time with Dylan, and I'm blessed to get some time with her as well. She is a mommy's girl!
And seriously, how could you not be happy around this?

Dylan absolutely loves Kindergarten. Every day, he comes home and tells me that he had a great day! He's so cheerful when he gets home! Lexie is usually still napping so I get a few quiet minutes with him, before things get chaotic.

The holidays were a lot of fun, but I am relieved to return to reality. It's usually a hard transition, but this year it wasn't!

9 weeks
DATE: January 3, 2011
How far along: 9 weeks
Total Weight Gained: I'm guessing none. Even though my belly is still bloated, my jeans are falling off my hips.
How big is baby? About the size of a large grape.
How baby is growing: By now, most of the aspects of your baby's physical structure, such as head, arms, legs, and torso are in place. If you were to peek in on your little one, you'd find they resemble a miniature human being (one with a very large head!). Because your baby's organs and limbs are forming, in the next few weeks, your baby will be putting on weight. Your baby's tail should have disappeared by now, and your baby's organs and muscles should be functioning on their own. At 9 weeks pregnant, your baby's eyelids will fuse shut and won't open up again until your baby is about 27 weeks along. Your baby's face is becoming more distinct every day, with the mouth, nose and nostrils becoming clearly visible. Your baby's heart should have divided into four separate chambers now.
Best Pregnancy Moment of the Week: Discussing baby names and talking about the baby with my mom.
Movement: None
Food Craving: Kosher Dill Pickles
Food Aversions: Everything else, especially liquids.
Morning Sickness: It got worse. Luckily, my Zofran prescription keeps me puke-free for about 8 hours, even though it doesn't take away the nausea and food aversions.
Gender: Unknown, and probably not finding out.
Symptoms: Nausea every waking moment, vomiting, gagging, headaches, bloating (ahem, constipation), exhaustion.
What I miss: Food and feeling normal!
What I'm looking forward to: The morning sickness going away (I'm hoping it doesn't last my entire pregnancy like with my other two), and feeling the baby move!
Still not much to see other than a woman who is sick and exhausted! I'm definitely not glowing yet...haggard is more like it!

Happy New Year!
I've never been a big fan of New Years Eve, but this year, we had a good time! For the first time ever, I was slightly relieved to see a year end, and a new one begin! 2011 is going to be a great year!
We used to spend New Years Eve at my sister Sharilyn's house every year, but the past two years we haven't. This year we did, and it was a lot of fun! The adults sat around the table, eating and playing Scattegories, while all the cousins played together.
I snuggled with my baby girl. It wasn't long before she wanted to change into pajamas!

Uncle Mack gave the kids piggy back rides.

The kids snuggled up on the couch, and watched a few movies.

Aubrey and Dylan had fun squishing my niece, Michelle.

Lexie couldn't make it until midnight. Surprisingly, she slept through the kids banging pots and pans beside her!

We rang in the New Year, and the kids went crazy! I was surprised at their energy!

The adults were tired, that's for sure!

My niece, Michelle, is a New Years baby. We celebrated her birthday right after midnight! My sister, Michelle, and I posed for a picture before we headed home.

Around 1:00, we rounded up the kids, and went home. Lexie stayed asleep, and the rest of us soon followed!
On New Years Day, we slept in, had brunch, had a lazy day, and then headed over to my sister, Andrea's house for a little get together. Dylan and Lexie played with their cousins, while the rest of us watched the Winter Classic hockey game. Andrea, the kids, and I had fun playing Just Dance 2! It was my first time playing, and I whooped Andrea's butt. That's right, she got whooped by a pregnant woman!

We had fun ringing in the New Year with my family, and can't wait to do it again next year. Here's to a happy and healthy 2011!
