To be perfectly honest, I can never manage to unplug completely. There's still the occasional email to answer and online volunteer work to do. I still like to post a tweet or a picture here and there. When my kids are sleeping, I like to check social media for a few minutes. But mostly, I just relax, forget about everything else and enjoy THEM.
Here are the moments that made this weekend so special:
Our usual Friday evening visit with our horse, followed by playing at the park until the sun set.
A special date with Papa.
Every weekend my dad takes one of my 4 kids on a special outing. I love that he does this, because I missed out on spending time with my grandfathers. My dad used to do the same thing when I was a child and I have so many wonderful memories of our adventures. On Saturday, he took Lily to a big petting zoo. Although she loved riding the camel and the pony and thought the kangaroo baby was adorable, her favorite part was playing with the baby goats! She arrived home with a framed picture, a stuffed tiger, a bag of fast food and a huge smile!
A Saturday afternoon spent playing outdoors.
The wonder in his eyes as he stared up at the sky.
Playing until sunset.
A Saturday evening shopping trip with my girls. Despite the fact that we had to buy a training bra and got caught outside in a downpour, we still had fun!
Not having any plans on Sunday afternoon and being able to go outside right after brunch!
A new outdoor toy that was an instant hit with the kids and a timesaver for me! The best $5.99 I ever spent on a combination balloon pump and mister. (I will forgive Dylan for that withering tween stare, considering he made us that brunch this morning all by himself!)
Hours spent running around, wild and free, in the backyard. It resulted in sticky hair (see drink shower below) and muddy legs and feet. Exactly what childhood is all about!
It was a wonderfully relaxing weekend, which was exactly what we needed! (Next weekend won't be as kind!)
How did you spend your weekend?
LET'S CONNECT!
Love the picture of all of you and Cherokee! Such a great shot. I love that your dad takes each child for a day and makes special memories. That's so awesome and something they will treasure so much. What a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! I absolutely love the relationship my dad has with his grandkids. They are going to have so many amazing memories of their Papa one day!
DeleteLooks like a great weekend friend. I always try to unplug some on the weekends too. It does everyone's heart good. I would love to have a completely phone off unplugged weekend sometime... maybe I should just start with a day.
ReplyDeleteI'm working my way up to that. I know you know how hard that is, though!
DeleteWhat a fun weekend. That shot of you guys with your horse is such a great one! I LOVE that your dad takes one of your kids each weekend - I'm sure they will treasure that one on one time with him for years to come.
ReplyDeleteThank you! That's how I feel, too. They love spending time with their Papa!
DeleteSounds like a great weekend. I love that your Dad takes each one of the kiddos. How sweet!
ReplyDeleteI can't get over Liam's hair in the pictures of him playing with Lexie. So cool!
Thank you so much! They love their dates with Papa!
DeleteLiam's hair is epic. It grows SO fast!
I typically do the same thing... I still post pics occasionally, but other than that I don't really scroll through any social media feeds or respond to emails or blog or anything. It's nice to get away! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteIt really is! It's so easy to get caught up in blogging and social media during the week, so it's nice to take that break!
DeleteI try to do exactly the same thing from Friday- Sunday and it feels SO good! Liam has the best hair, the picture of him and Lexie playing is darling. Your children are all so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Whitney!
DeleteI try to do the same thing. I'll post a picture here and there, but try not to scroll through my feed!
Those pictures of Liam are so full of joy! I too try to unplug a bit on the weekends, or really as much as I can on any given day. We were camping this weekend and had no cell phone use; it was refreshing!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds wonderful! The only time I truly unplugged was when we were at the beach in August. I shut my laptop and refused to look at my blog for an entire week. It was wonderful!
DeleteVery cute. Sometimes it's nice to unwind and take a step back.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree, my friend! XOXO
