A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials heavy and sudden, fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends who rejoice with us in our sunshine desert us; when trouble thickens around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts. ~Washington Irving
I had a wonderful Mother's Day! It was spent with those I love most in this world.
Yesterday was trying, so I'm so glad today turned out perfectly. Yesterday, I went to get Lexie out of her crib so we could go to Dylan's T-Ball game, and found her covered in diarrhea. It was one of those days where I truly missed diapers! And then, it happened again. And again. Needless to say, I missed Dylan's T-Ball game, and felt so guilty about it. My sick girl needed me, though. Luckily, the strong wind and the rain ended Dylan's game early, so I didn't miss much. And today, Lexie woke up a much happier and healthier child. No more diarrhea, and she's in a much better mood. All that's left of her cold is a cough and some congestion. Misery is good company. We both spent the night coughing!
I got to sleep in until almost noon today! It was so nice! As I was waking up, I heard Grant and the kids whispering, as they got my present ready. I was greeted with two happy kids jumping into bed with me, eager to give me my Mother's Day present. In addition to the pineapple cup in my Fiesta post, the kids gave me a great collage photo frame to hang in my soon-to-be repainted living room, and a pair of non-skid mary-jane slippers with monkeys on them. Dylan told me they would stop me from sliding all over our hardwood floors. Indeed, they do!
The best gift was the one that Dylan made for me in school. He gave it to me on Wednesday, and insisted I open it immediately. He gave me a handmade card, and a bunch of blank cards with his paintings on them. I absolutely loved them! He was so excited about making me something, which made it extra special. This is the first year that he truly understands Mother's Day, and it meant so much to me!
There is no way I will be able to send those cards to anybody. I can't give away his beautiful work! I love that he said, "My mom is 16 years old" in the card he made for me. HA!
We had a big brunch at home, then I got to snuggle the kids for a while. I even got to lay down in bed a bit longer while Lexie napped. It felt so nice not to have to do anything!
We had dinner at my parent's house tonight. I am so happy that I got to spend time with my mom. I love her so much! I'd be lost without her.
While we were there, we saw the mama bunny nursing her babies. Now if that's not a sweet Mother's Day sight, I'm not sure what is!
On our way home, we stopped to visit Grant's mom. We had a good time chatting, while indulging in the chocolate truffles that she gave me!
I felt truly blessed today. I never expected that I could love my kids so much. I love them with every ounce of my being!
I am so thankful for them.
They are my world. They make me smile. They make me laugh. They make the bad times bearable. The make the good times amazing. They bring joy to my heart. They show me what really matters in life.
I am so proud to be their mother.
I am so blessed.
