The Cute and The Fearless

We had a wild day! Quite literally.

I was still under the weather today, but had a few things that I wanted to do, since Dylan was off of school. Our first stop was at the new stable to check on Cherokee.

He was so caught up in eating grass, that he refused to acknowledge our presence. I had to go into the pasture to lead him down to where the kids were, and we had to bribe him with carrots to get him to stay with us. It's apparent that my horsey-boy loves his new home!

After visiting Cherokee, we went to visit my parents. Along the way, we encountered a bunch of turkeys.

We spent the afternoon with my parents, and had dinner with them. Yesterday, my dad found something in his yard, while he was mowing. He couldn't wait to show the kids!

Just what were they looking at?

A bunny nest! The baby bunnies eyes weren't even open yet. They were the cutest little babies!

The kids were so disappointed to leave the babies behind, but we explained to them that if we didn't leave them, the mommy wouldn't come back.

After that, Lexie's cold hit hard. She had been feeling perfectly fine all day. All of the sudden, she spiked a fever, began coughing, and wouldn't stop crying. She has been miserable all night! If she gets worse, I'm going to have to schedule her first ever sick visit. (Well, she went for the diarrhea issue, but she wasn't sick.) I feel so bad for my poor little girl. This is the worst I've seen her.

Since she was sleeping peacefully, I decided to stay at my parent's house until she woke up. My mom and I spent a few hours playing Quiddler (love that game!), while my dad took Dylan to my sister's house to see her new baby ducks and chicks. I would have loved to see them, but wanted to stay close to Lexie.

When we finally got home, Lexie cheered up briefly, and joined Dylan in begging to hold the snake. So, Grant obliged.

My kids are fearless.

They made me feel like such a wimp. Honestly, I tried. I attempted to hold Apollo twice, and both times, I ended up nearly throwing him back at Grant, when his head got close to me. I was the only girl that held a snake that was bigger than me in my high school biology class, but I couldn't handle this little snake. It's amazing how quickly fears develop. I'm trying.

Perhaps I'll grow to love the little guy as much as my kids and husband do. Or perhaps, I'll just live comfortably at a distance. Only time will tell.

I much prefer those sweet little bunnies. It took all my willpower not to scoop them up, bring them home, and raise them!

  1. Those bunnies are so cute. We had some bunnies in our yard once. They went from teeny tiny to huge in no time.

I hope Lexie does better today!

  6. I stumbled across your blog from Kelly's Korner! The spelling of your name caught my eye as mine is spelled the same way! As you know, it is quite uncommon! Just out of curiousity, how did you get your name? Were you named after someone? My Father is Ukrainian and there is no "ph" in their alphabet, so I got "f". YOur family is beautiful. My husband and I are in Ukraine adopting our fifth Son. Happy Mothers Day!

  7. I'm with you. I prefer the bunnies to the snake. I called the Dayngrous Duo over to see your horse and the bunnies and now they want to move in with you. Oh, and when I read down the list of critters you have they questioned me in great detail about hermit crabs and then advised me that they should have them as pets. They're really too much these kids of mine.

    Happy Mother's Day!
