The Gift of Time + JORD Watch Instant Giveaway

DISCLAIMER: This post is sponsored by JORD. I received product in exchange for my honest review. I loved JORD prior to receiving the product and all images and opinions are 100% my own.

As Christmas draws closer, I always go into panic mode as time rapidly ticks by. There are those on my list who are so easy to shop for. Their gifts are already bought and wrapped, and absolutely perfect for them. But I always struggle to find the perfect gift for a few of my loved ones.

Each year, I search for the perfect gift for my dad and nothing seems right. My dad is very practical and not the least bit extravagant. He isn't one to spoil himself and he always says that he doesn't need anything more than the basic necessities. I try every year, but I can never find the perfect gift. He's an amazing dad and an even more amazing grandpa. He deserves something extra special!

137

My dad grew up in a large family that didn't have much money. He started working to help out when he was younger than my own son. As a mother, that makes my heart ache, but he did what he had to do, and he never stopped. He attempted early retirement, but quickly grew bored and realized that extra income would be nice. A decade later, he attempted retirement again with the same result.

At the age of 76, my dad is still a dependable, hard-working man. I really do wish I could give him the gift of retirement and relaxation, but that isn't the right fit for him. Working hard was drilled into him at such a young age and it became part of who he is. He needs to be doing something in order to stay happy, and to be perfectly honest, I do believe it keeps his mind sharp.

That being said, my dad deserves something really special this year. He buys himself whatever he needs when he needs it, and I don't want to give him something he would typically buy. I want his gift to mean something to him. Not only is he my rock, but he's also the BEST grandfather my kids could ever ask for.

I know everybody says that, but it's true. When my dad sees his grandchildren, his eyes light up. His love for them is immediately evident and the feeling is mutual. They all have a bond that can't be broken. I often think that he is Liam's most favorite person. Perhaps it's because they bonded from the moment they met. When I dropped the bombshell on my parents when they walked into the delivery room, my dad's only response was, "Where's my grandson? I want to meet him." And when they met, tears filled his eyes, he smiled down at Liam and declared, "He's perfect. I don't see Down syndrome. I just see my grandson."

 A small part of me is jealous of the relationship my kids have with my dad because I never had that growing up. One of my grandfathers passed away when I was very young and my other grandfather lived very far away. My kids are incredibly lucky to have a doting grandfather whom they are able to visit twice a week!

When I was a child, my dad gave me the gift of time spent with him. He filled my weekends with incredible experiences. He took me hiking, we visited new towns and we explored museums and zoos. I have the most amazing memories of our adventures together and now my own children are making the same memories.

Every weekend, my dad does something special with one of my children.  They alternate their weekends sleeping over at Papa and Nina's house so they each get a turn. He takes them to breakfast or lunch on their weekend and buys them a little gift. Once a month, they go on a bigger outing. He takes Dylan fishing, he takes Lexie to a nearby farm to visit the animals, and he takes Lily to the zoo. They always return home with huge smiles and souvenirs from their adventure. My dad is now giving my kids the gift of time spent with him and I know those memories are going to last a lifetime.

As I get older, it is becoming more evident that time is not a guarantee. The harsh reality is that my dad is going to be 77 and the impact of that takes my breath away. I fervently wish that he has twenty more years with us, but there's simply no guarantee for any of us. Time is never on our side. There's not enough time to tackle that to do list. There's not enough time to get everything done. There's not enough time spent in this world. And there's certainly not enough time to spend with those we love most.

This Christmas, I want to thank my dad for giving me and my children so much of his precious time by giving him the gift of time.

A stunning wood watch from JORD is the perfect gift for anyone on your Christmas list and it's the perfect gift for my dad.

005

The watch I chose for my dad looks like it was custom made for him! I chose the Dark Sandalwood & Burgundy watch from the Conway series. It just reminded me so much of him. Burgundy is a color my dad always seemed to wear and the beautiful wood reminds me of all the years he spent wood working. From the gorgeous custom bed my dad built for me as a child to the wooden spoons that now sit in my utensil jar, my dad loved to create anything and everything from wood!

039

The face of the watch displays hours, minutes, seconds and the date. I thought this was the perfect feature for a man with a military background. He is always prompt and on time!

121

Although the watch is made out of wood, it is splash proof (but should not be submerged) which makes it a perfect choice for everyday use. It's a beautiful, versatile watch that is suitable for everyday wear and fancier occasions.

096

A wood watch from JORD can be sized prior to shipping for a small, additional fee. Finding the correct size can be done by using a tape measure or the JORD Wrist Sizer, which is a tool that you can download and print. Or you can simply take the watch to a local jeweler or watch shop if it needs to be sized.

052

JORD is now offering a NEW way to customize their already gorgeous watches! I am so excited about this option. JORD now offers wood engraving on their watch box and watch engraving on certain styles! Everybody loves an engraved gift because it makes it so much more personal.

031

The cedar box that the watch arrives in is already beautiful enough, but now it can be customized with a special note, quote, monogram, logo or handwritten message for $45. You have the option to choose block or script engraving to make this gift more personal.

024

Personalized engraving is now available on certain watch styles for $35. (Fieldcrest, Reece, Frankie35, Frankie, and Conway series.) The special message gets engraved on the backplate in either block or script engraving. I knew this was the perfect option to make my dad's watch even more special! Since he spends so much of his time with his beloved grandchildren, I opted for this message: "Love you, Papa! Love, DALL" (Dylan, Alexandria, Liliana and Liam.)

173

I know this is going to be an extra special gift for my dad this year! Now he will have a reminder of his grandchildren (and their love for him) with him at all times!

A Unique Birthday Gift from JORD + GIVEAWAY

My husband and I met when we were teenagers and we have officially been together for 17 years! We have celebrated a LOT of birthdays together. Every year as Grant's birthday approaches, I try to come up with a unique birthday gift idea for him, but I always end up relying on the same gifts.

I always choose his favorites but after a while the gift of clothing, cologne, DVDs or electronics starts to get boring. I was determined to come up with something unique this year!

Grant deserved something extra special. He puts in so much time at the office and works tirelessly for his family. He always arrives home to a house full of kids, noise and chaos, but no matter how tired or stressed out he's feeling, he always makes time for us. I wanted to give him something he wasn't expecting for his birthday this year!

Grant always loved watches. I gave him an engraved pocket watch shortly after we met, but he eventually stopped using it out of fear that it would get lost. Instead, he relied on an old favorite which broke a while back and never got replaced. When I received a JORD watch to review a few months ago, my watch-obsessed husband was incredibly jealous. So when JORD asked if I was interested in collaborating again on their Summer campaign, I jumped at the chance! The timing was impeccable!

What better gift for the main man in your life than a beautiful wood watch?

I was overwhelmed by all the beautiful wood watches that JORD offers for men.  There were so many available that I knew my husband would love! There was one in particular that caught my eye immediately, though, and I kept going back to it.

I just knew the Delmar Dark Sandalwood & Blue Carbon wood watch would suit my husband perfectly!

When that gorgeous engraved wooden box arrived, I was giddy with excitement!  I opened the lid and slipped the watch off the tiny engraved pillow. It was even more unique in person than it was online. The coloring and the grain of the wood was simply stunning. I couldn't wait to give it to him!

Grant celebrated his birthday at the end of July and sure enough, he absolutely loved it!  He's thrilled to have a JORD watch of his own.

This JORD wood watch is every bit as unique as he is.  I don't think he has ever owned a watch that fit him more perfectly than this one. It can easily go from business casual to his preferred relaxed style, which suits his lifestyle quite well!

One of Grant's favorite features of his JORD watch is the clasp which makes it easy to switch wrists in a flash when he's playing his guitar. That means he gets even more time to focus on his hobby and play for his kids!

One of MY favorite features is the fact that JORD watches can be custom sized before they even ship. JORD has a handy wrist measurement tool to download and print for accurate measurement.  A few other things worth noting is the scratch-resistant glass and the pretreated wood that is splash-proof. These beautifully designed watches are quality and durable!

Perhaps the best thing about JORD wood watches is that they are timeless and truly unique. Every last detail is well thought out and designed. From the intricate packaging to the unique features of each watch they offer, these watches are stunning. JORD watches are designed to spark attention!

I couldn't have come up with a more unique gift than a JORD wood watch for Grant's birthday. It's something that he will wear every day and treasure forever!

Friday Favorites

Happy Friday, friends!

I am so glad the weekend is finally here! There are so many good things in life right now, but this week has just been a series of unfortunate events.

My husband's brand new car was the victim of a hit and run. (Thank goodness for a vanishing deductible.) I rolled my ankle while coming down the steps and could barely walk for 2 days. Now it's just a dull ache. Our water heater is starting to go and it heats up the water to approximately 5000 degrees (or so). It feels about as lovely as it sounds. Grant is putting in long hours at the office due to an increased workload. I had a work issue today that left me in tears. And to top off the week, my parents had to put their dog down tonight. It was a dog they got when I was still living at home so now I'm just feeling sad and old and pathetic. Oh, and did I mention that I have 4 blog posts and 2 photoshoots due by Sunday night and 2 weeks to find a new SUV to lease? I really could use a vacation from everyday life right now!

I hate to complain. I really do. But sometimes I just need to vent! Now that I got it out of my system...

Here are the Friday Favorites that I'm loving this week!

{ONE}

Weekly visits with our horse!

The kids and I head to the stable every weekend for a visit with our horse. Notice I left out my husband? Grant and Cherokee have not been friends since Cherokee nearly bucked Grant off while he was riding! The kids, however, love him and I am so thankful that one of my four children is a natural on horseback!

On Friday, Lily told me she wanted a saddle and a helmet for her upcoming birthday and wants me to teach her how to ride the real way. I was unbelievably proud!

{TWO}

A new show addiction on Netflix!

Is anybody else watching Stranger Things? Grant convinced me to start watching it and we're hooked! We only have 2 more episodes left! #StreamTeam

Liam's new water table!

The kids use our water table almost every day all year round and after a decade of use, it was time to replace it. We bought Liam the Step 2 Cascading Cove Sand & Water Table as an early birthday present and he loves it!

Grant's birthday is on Sunday and he's going to absolutely love his gift. He has been jealous of my beautiful JORD watch since I got it, so he's going to be thrilled to have one of his own!

An awesome new photoshoot location!

On Tuesday, we headed to a nearby conservancy for Liam's Down syndrome awareness photoshoot.  My friend took the pictures for the calendar, but I snapped a few of her taking their pictures. We went to a wedding at this conservancy 4 years ago but I forgot how gorgeous it was AND that it's not too far from our house! I'm definitely going to start heading there for photoshoots because there are so many photo perfect backgrounds, including this one!  (And, well, these four are my absolute favorite things!)

Friday Favorites

Happy Friday, my friends! I hope you adjusted well to everyday life after the long holiday weekend!

I celebrated the return to reality by waking up with a cold and a fever. I'm now going on day four of being sick and I'm ready to go crazy. Let me just say, having a fever during 90+ degree weather just sucks. My poor kids were forced to stay home the entire week and we had to cancel all our plans. Sorry, kids, but your mama can barely move!

Here are my favorites from my stuck at home sick week:

{ONE}

A fantastic new book! I bought The Good Girl while I was shopping over the weekend and couldn't wait to read it. I got my chance on Tuesday morning. I had to cancel Liam's physical therapy session since I was sick, so I was faced with a quiet morning. I thoroughly enjoyed my hot tea and quickly read through half the book!

The last book I read was The Girl on the Train and I loved it so much. I didn't think another book would be as good, but this one delivers. It's hard to put down but I want to make it last more than a few days!

Morning plans. ❤ I canceled Liam's PT session because I woke up with a cold. Opting for a good book (I can't put this one down) and hot tea with honey instead! What are you currently reading?

{TWO}

The perfect birthday gift for my husband! Grant's birthday is on the 24th and I'm going to surprise him with his very own JORD watch. He is so jealous of my JORD watch and I know he's going to love it! If you haven't checked out JORD yet, make sure you do. Their wood watches are simply stunning!

A picture of Lily from the 4th of July made it into the newspaper. She was so excited! I just adore this sweet little girl so very much! (And, yes, we wear fancy dresses on boring Summer days!)

An awesome new show called Word Party is premiering on Netflix TODAY!  It looks like it's perfect for Lily and Liam! #StreamTeam

 {FIVE}

A few weeks ago, I found three adorable Back To School chalkboards in the Target Dollar Spot. I have big plans to use them on the first day of school, but I need four. I searched all the nearby Targets over the past few weeks with no luck.  I found a good alternative! It's meant to be a wreath, but it's perfect for Liam's first day of preschool. I picked up a pencil banner while I was at it. I have quite the love affair with the Target Dollar Spot! We still have nearly 2 months of Summer left, but I like to be prepared!

{SIX}

Now that it's Summer, I'm living in sunglasses. My eyes are SO light-sensitive. My husband teases me about being a vampire, because as soon as I set foot in sunlight without wearing sunglasses, I cringe and immediately close my eyes. Needless to say, I try not to leave without sunglasses and I try to keep extra pairs stashed in my car and my purse just in case.

I'm always on the hunt for quality frames and I was recently introduced to Warby Parker. Warby Parker frames are made by a 150-year-old Italian family-owned company. They just released their final collection in their #SeeSummerBetter campaign, and the frames are beautiful.

Not only are they made from durable materials, but they also feature scratch-resistant polarized lenses that provide 100% UV protection. Sign me up! You can shop the entire collection HERE.

My favorite style is Raglan but the Nancy is also beautiful!

They also offer a beautiful Summer eyeglasses collection!

Even when I'm sick, this kid brightens my day!

I hope you all had a wonderful week!  What's on the agenda for the weekend? The main thing on my list of things to do is get rid of this cold!!! (And, of course, parenting.)
