At the end of the summer, we packed up our SUV, and headed to Virginia Beach for our first vacation as a family of six!
The only thing on our agenda was relaxing and spending time together at the beach! We parked our car after we arrived at our hotel and we didn't get in it again until it was time to go. It was a FANTASTIC trip!
I'm going to be honest. The only reason I haven't recapped our vacation yet was because I was overwhelmed by the amount of pictures to go through. I still haven't looked through all of them! I decided to break it up and post one day at time. I'm really missing the beach right now!
We chose to go on vacation the last week of August. Our kids would typically be going back to school that week, but this year, it was pushed back a week. It worked out great for us! Due to most kids being back in school, the beach wasn't crowded at all!
Virginia Beach is a 7 hour drive from our house. We loaded up the SUV the night before, and we left just before 7 AM. Check-in wasn't until 4, so that left us plenty of time for the drive and stops.
The kids were so excited, and thanks to my road trip planning, they were PERFECT travelers!
We only had a few brief stops, and we were making great timing! Unfortunately, we hit some crazy traffic near Fredericksburg, Virginia, where my sister used to live. After making it through that, we thought we were safe. NOPE. Less than an hour away from Virginia Beach, we hit standstill traffic. The kids did great. I was the one who was going crazy!
FINALLY, around 6 PM, we made it to Virginia Beach! Those first glimpses and smells of the ocean were GLORIOUS!
(This time, we chose to stay at an oceanfront hotel. It was different from a beach house, but I would definitely do it again! Our hotel was amazing and seriously had the best free breakfast buffet I've ever had! The unlimited coffee, tea, and hot cocoa bar was an added bonus!)
After unloading our car, checking out our living area for the week, and grabbing some dinner from Subway, we hit the beach! It was almost dark, but the kids were too excited to wait any longer!
I absolutely LOVE watching my kids greet the ocean!
It was Liam's first trip to the beach! He wasn't sure what to think at first, but he loved it!
Our entire family was THRILLED to be back at the beach! Grant and Dylan disappeared into the waves, the girls played in the surf, and Liam took off for the pier!
We headed back to our hotel room, exhausted from the drive and playing in the ocean.
It was a LONG day, so we showered, unpacked, and headed to bed early. We were so excited about the week ahead of us!

Awww! I'm glad your first day at the beach started off great! It's a wonderful place to just relax and let the kids run around and play with the sand. Did you pack any books to read by the ocean?

We love the beach! I did pack a few books, but I didn't get much time to read. It's hard to relax while chasing around 4 kids!
DeleteI remember you posting about this trip. What a great idea to break it up into days. It certainly looked like your entire family enjoyed the beach, especially Liam (with it being his very first time). I must say that you've got me thinking about planning another beach trip soon!
