Lexie and Lily's Bedroom

One of my biggest nesting projects during my pregnancy with Liam was redoing the kids' rooms.

We live in a 3 bedroom house, so everybody has a roommate! Dylan's room was much bigger than Lexie and Lily's, so we decided to have them switch rooms.  They loved the idea!

In the event that baby #4 would be another girl, there was plenty of room in Lexie and Lily's room.  If baby #4 was a boy, he would share with Dylan.  Now that Dylan's older, he has much less stuff, so sharing a room would work out perfectly, even in a smaller space.

Well, we all know how that turned out.  Dylan and Liam share a room, even though Liam isn't sleeping in the room just yet.  He is sleeping in our room until he's 6 or 7 months old.

I still have quite a bit of work to do in their room, but the girls' room is finished!  Near the end of my pregnancy, I could not sleep.  Instead, I focused on completely redoing Lexie and Lily's room while everybody else slept.

For 1 full week, the girls had sleepovers in Dylan's room.  In the wee hours of the night, I painted the entire room with expensive, low-fume paint.  By the end of the week, the walls and trim were completely done.  It's amazing what you can accomplish by yourself when you can't sleep!

Once the room was finished, Lexie picked out curtains, bedding, and decorations. I bought a bunch of large, pink buckets and storage ottomans to organize the toys they play with.  All the extra toys got put into storage bins that slide under their beds or storage totes that are stacked in their closet.

I'm currently searching for a tall, white dresser for their room.  The changing table has gone through 3 kids and needs to go!!!  Lily is still in a crib, but we'll be swapping that for either bunk beds or a bed similar to Lexie's in the next year or so.

I didn't take any before pictures, but the room went from a boring bluish-white with wood trim to pink explosion!   We even swapped out the boring ceiling light for a chandelier!

My goal was to create a fun, well organized, sleep and play space for the girls. The girls love their room and spend so much time playing in it now!  In addition to the new dresser and replacing Lily's crib, I also have a few ideas for things to hang on the wall.  Realistically, I won't get around to it anytime soon!

Next up is finishing the boys' room.  And the bathroom.  And the living room. And the basement.  And our bedroom.  And the sun porch.

Yep.  We're going to be busy!

  2. Such a cute room!! We are currently searching for a big girl bed for Mackenzie. Her crib will be Ethan's. They will also have to share a room for maybe a year, but like you he will be in our room for 6-7 months.

  4. Funny how you finish one project only to have about 10 more right behind it! Looks fabulous! Anxious to see how the transition of Liam into Dylan's room goes. Someone here is going to have to have a room mate as well!

  10. I love the color combo! You make having a large amount of toys in the bedroom look easy...I am sure they put everything back in the right place :) I am also jealous that Lily still sleeps in a crib.
