Last year was a year of loss. Between Grant's best friend passing away unexpectedly, all middle management (including Grant) being laid off at his company, TWO car accidents, and the death of Grant's father, it was draining!
This year is a year of change! Good change!
Today, Grant started at a new company. We are so grateful for this new job! I just heard from him, and his first day went great!
This new job brings many changes to our routine. Grant's previous company was just minutes from our house. His new company is south of Pittsburgh, so he has a 45 minute commute in the morning and evening. Add that to his 9 hour workday, and he is gone for almost 11 hours! I have to admit, I was spoiled when he worked so close. He was home by 4:30 most days!
We really had to switch up our evening routine tonight so we could all eat together. Family dinners are non-negotiable (except in rare instances) for us, so we do what we have to do to make it work! Now the kids get baths and put on pajamas before dinner so they can still get to bed by 7:30! And, unfortunately...Lexie fell asleep at 6:00, before Grant arrived home.
It's going to be hard for the kids to get used to seeing their dad for only about an hour a day. Lily was missing him today. She's such a daddy's girl and they really bonded over the past year. It's a long day for all of us, but we'll make it work!
This new job is the first of several big things for our family this year. We are looking forward to a great year!!!
YeY for your husband's new job!
ReplyDeleteSo very sorry to hear about all of the losses your family endured last year :( Prayers & fingers crossed this year continues to go good for you with all of the new changes!
Good luck with the new transition. I'm sure it will get better with time. Glad he had a good first day
ReplyDeleteYah for the new job! Boo for him not being home as much. Commutes suck! :( Boo!
ReplyDeleteI hope the transition will be smooth for all of you. That's an awfully long day for him.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to your hubby on the new job! The long hours away from home stink though... Here's to a better year!
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Grant on his new job! My husband works long hours, and it's really hard with little ones! It is better now, but when he first started at the job that dragged us to Erie, he didn't see the kids most nights. Good luck to you guys getting your new schedule ironed out!

Congrats on this new job! It's so hard when our hubbies work long hours, we miss them so much. Josh runs a concrete plant & he left at 2:30 this morning & will probably have pours until 4 or 5 tonight, so I'm right there with you! Lexie is so precious in that asleep pic on Instagram!!
ReplyDeleteI hope he enjoys the new job. I feel the same way about family dinners!
ReplyDeletemany WONDERFUL changes, but I know how hard routine changes are, too. We have a couple nights a week where we're not all home from work, etc. until 7:30... so on those nights, kiddos go to bed later (by 9) and that works for us because we need some quality time together. You do what you have to do!!
ReplyDeleteI love change, I hope all your changes brings about good things. I too feel family dinner is so important, it doesn't always happen on busy nights, but we make it happen most of the time.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! For sure you can all work it out :)
ReplyDeleteSounds like we had similar years last year! Joe went through 3 jobs in 6 months because the companies kept shutting down! We ended up having to move to FL to get stable employment. Even though it was hard leaving our family, he has been at his job now 7 months and it is the BEST job he has ever had. And the most stable company in his business in FL which is promising!
ReplyDeleteThe new routine will get easier just keep at it! And the kids will adjust and that time spent together will be even more precious!

Glad to hear it went well.
ReplyDeleteGood luck to Grant...I hope he loves his new job! It is awesome that you have the "non-negotiable" family dinners. I think that is so important for families, and I will do it for as long as I can. You guys will get your new routine down in no time.
ReplyDeleteYay for a new job! It will take time to adjust, but you'll all get there! My hubby schedule is kind of crazy, but we almost always have dinner as a family at night too!
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Grant on the new job! :-)
ReplyDeleteYou did have a rough year last year. I hope this one is much better for you and the fam. We, too, create a word to represent the year. For us, 2013 is the year of foundation. We shall see what the year has in store for us all :)
ReplyDeleteI hope that these changes have been easier for your family! Congrats on the new job - and hoping only good things come from it!
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy he got the job and that you guys are doing well! Here's to 2013!! Ps is it time to move to the south hills?? Hee.
