Bookworms

I absolutely love to read, and one of the things my kids have inherited from me is the bookworm gene!

I began reading to Dylan when he first came home from the hospital. At first, it seemed silly. I would sit in the rocker, with him on my lap, and read to him. He usually ended up asleep before the book was even over. I continued to do this with Lexie, and now with Lily. It may seem silly, but Dylan and Lexie love to read now!

Dylan is already a proficient reader, and is so excited that he can now read much longer books all by himself! Lexie is trying to follow in his footsteps by narrating books to her baby sister. And Lily loves to sit on my lap and stare at the pictures in the books that I read to Dylan and Lexie.

Last Spring, we finally made it a point to regularly attend our local library. They have a wonderful section for kids, and have great reading programs and events. I really wish we would have attended sooner, because everything is free, and the kids love it!

We started off by going every two weeks to play and pick out books, and then we began to go once a week. The kids section is set up for play. They have a big rug surrounded by shelves filled with toys and puzzles. They have a table set up just for coloring. A fire truck playhouse to climb in. A puppet theater. A map table. A bank of computers. A table set up with puzzles and mazes and magnets. A train table. The library is now one of my kids favorite places to go!

I had wanted to sign them up for the summer reading program but it conflicted with my pregnancy. When I saw that they had a Fall Storytime, I immediately signed Lexie up. She now goes every Monday with my best friend's son. They read books with Miss. Sandy, play a game, and do a craft. It is a wonderful program, and I'm so glad I signed her up! This session's theme is Batty for Books and they have had a lot of fun!

On Mondays, after storytime, a therapy dog comes to visit!

I felt bad that Dylan wasn't able to attend due to being in school, even though he visits his school library everyday. He was so excited when he found out I had signed him up for Lego Club at the library. Dylan had a great time at the first meeting last week, and can't wait to go back. While he was at the meeting, the girls and I had the kids library all to ourselves!

Lexie's storytime program ends on Halloween, but I'll definitely be signing her up for the next one! And, of course, we'll continue to visit the library every week! They max out library card, but I love my little bookworms!

  2. I love reading too! My sister used to go to the library with me and she'd get SO embarrased at the number of books I'd check out! Ha!

  3. Aren't libraries fabulous? We don't go nearly enough, but with all the reading Buddy is doing, we need to start going more.

Look at all the pictures of Lexie in jeans! Is she finally becoming more accepting of jeans?

  4. Wow, I want to go to your library!! I think it's wonderful that all three of your children love to read. It's the best gift you can ever give to them! A lego club? My son would love that!!

  5. My boys are great readers, but they don't really love it...especially when I make them read chapter books:) We did story time when Henry and Grant were younger...poor Eli has never been though! I guess I need to start taking him so I don't feel so bad about him missing out!

  7. That is so good. I'm not much of a reader myself, but I do enjoy reading to my little one's.

  8. Great pics! I wish I was able to take the kids to things like this. Dom wanted to do the Lego club too! Some times being a working Mom has its negatives.

  10. It seems like you have an awesome library! I haven't been to ours much since Jackson came along, but plan to go more often this winter. Good for your kids for being such avid readers already!
