5 Healthy Ways To Start Your Day

5 Healthy Ways To Start Your Day

This post is sponsored by Natrol but the content and opinions expressed here are my own.

I might be a lot of things, but a morning person is not one of them! No matter how hard I try, waking up early is just not my thing. I do, however, focus on healthy living, and I strive to teach my kids the healthy habits they need to become healthy adults. Following a healthy morning routine is how my family starts each day!

A healthy lifestyle is easy to achieve! Simple changes can make a world of difference in physical and emotional health. My family tries to focus on one small change at a time until it becomes a normal part of our daily routine. All of those small changes make a difference, and the proof is in the happy, healthy kids that bring so much joy to my life!

Morning Routine With Kids

Mornings with four kids are chaotic and often very rushed, but we try to follow the same routine each day. Routine is key in big families, and it definitely helps to have everybody on the same page. My family is easily able to start the day right with these five simple healthy habits...

5 HEALTHY WAYS TO START YOUR DAY

Healthy Living with Kids

DRINK A BIG GLASS OF WATER

Drinking plenty of water is vital for good health, but most people don't drink enough water each day. Not drinking enough water can lead to dehydration, and even mild dehydration can zap energy. The eight 8-ounce glasses is the most common recommendation, though it might be more or less depending on exercise, weather, and illness. Drinking just one of those 8-ounce glasses of water shortly after waking up is a great way to start the day!

EAT A HEALTHY BREAKFAST

You know that old saying about how breakfast is the most important meal of the day? Just think about it...it definitely is! Food gives you energy, and energy will get you through a long day! We always aim to make our first meal of the day a healthy one, and we try to include something from each food group. Even if the rest of our meals are lacking, breakfast was full of good stuff!

PUT ON SUNSCREEN

Sunscreen should be an important part of everybody's daily routine, but many people forget, don't see the importance of wearing it, or don't think they need it. Making this habit a regular part of your morning routine can easily decrease the risk of skin cancer. I tell my kids this: "If you're stepping outside this house at any point today, even if it's just to get the mail, you need sunscreen!"

GET OUTSIDE

Fresh air can work wonders! It can refresh, relax, and energize. So why not start the day by stepping outside for a few minutes? Take the dog for a quick walk around the block (bonus points for morning exercise), walk the kids to the bus stop, or simply sip coffee or tea, or read a chapter in a book while enjoying the benefits of the great outdoors!

TAKE A VITAMIN

Taking a daily multivitamin is such an easy way to fill in the gaps where diet may be lacking. Even the healthiest diet can be lacking in some ways. Even if we fail at the four habits above, we can easily succeed with this one! Taking a vitamin literally takes seconds, and this habit can make a big difference in overall health!

It used to be difficult to keep track of  who was taking their vitamins each day, and sometimes daily doses were missed, but I fine-tuned our method over the years. Now we keep all of our vitamins in one spot, and have a convenient chalkboard tracker! After each family member takes their vitamin, a check goes next to their name. At the end of the day, it's easy to tell who took their vitamins and who didn't, then I can erase all the checks and start fresh the next day!

  1. You are so right with these! This has reminded me to look at a gummie multi-vit for Caspar, as he definitely won't swallow tablets yet, and this is easier than crushing a tablet and putting it in jam. I will look out for Natrol in the UK - I like the fact the ingredients are organic x

    1. My kids will only use gummy vitamins, but Dylan prefers pill-form. I think that's so strange!

  2. Fun post! I take Vitamin B as a gummy - it just makes it more fun, you know? All your tips are spot on though!!!
