On Saturday, August 3rd, Lily celebrated her 8th Birthday! It's so hard to believe my baby girl is 8 years old. I swear, I just had her, but she grew up far too quickly. I just want her to stay little, sweet, and innocent for as long as possible!
Lily's Birthday was a busy one, and she had to share her special day with a family event. My family reunion is always the first Saturday in August, so every few years, Lily's birthday is the same day as the reunion. She didn't seem to mind one bit. She celebrated her birthday with some of the people she loves most, and had the loudest happy birthday song! She said her birthday was so much fun!
One of our birthday traditions is to have a mini photoshoot, and answer questions in a yearly birthday interview. I love seeing how their answers change from year to year, and I love watching them grow! Motherhood truly is bittersweet - you want to watch your children grow, but you also want them to stay little. I honestly love my kids' birthdays so much more than my own, so we make birthdays a BIG deal around here!
Here's how we celebrated Lily's 8th Birthday...
Lily's 8th Birthday celebration started on her birthday eve! We let our kids choose where they want to go out to eat on their birthdays, but since we had my family reunion on Lily's birthday, she opted to go out to dinner on Friday night. It was a tough choice that took a lot of pondering, but Subway was the ultimate winner! Lily said it was a win because she could order a footlong, eat half of it at dinner, and take the other half home for later!
After dinner, Grant and Dylan headed home, while the rest of my crew headed out to shop for some birthday necessities. We went through the Dairy Queen drive thru on the way home for a special treat! When we arrived home, I took one last picture of Lily as a 7 year old, then we watched the movie of Lily's choice - Coco!
After the movie, Lily wanted to take a few snaps together, and send them to our family chat. She's just the cutest, funniest little girl!
While the kids got ready for bed, I wrapped Lily's presents, and put up the birthday banner. Grant and I blew up the balloons, and filled the room with them. We all headed to bed, and the girls and Liam decided to camp out in our room for the night!
When Lily woke up, she was officially 8 years old! She was so excited about her birthday! She immediately wanted to see her birthday outfit and get dressed, so we could have birthday donuts, open gifts, and do a mini photoshoot before going to the family reunion. The kids are big on tradition, and nothing gets skipped!
Lily was so excited about every single birthday gift this year! After she opened her gifts, she hugged and thanked all of us - including the dog! She got three barbies that she was hoping for, Stranger Things items (It's one of her favorite shows, and she loves Eleven), and a Panic at the Disco necklace (one of her favorite bands). She also has another gift coming later today, which is a new, popular item that was sold out everywhere!
After we sang Happy Birthday, ate a donut breakfast, and gave Lily her gifts, we squeezed in a quick photoshoot before running out the door!
The rest of Lily's birthday was spent at our family reunion. She was so excited to see everyone, and especially excited that my cousin, who is one of her most favorite people ever, was in town from Texas. She spent most of the day going on walks with her and Lexie! And, of course, digging in the pine shavings for money is always a hit!
We were at my family reunion until after it got dark. It ended with singing Lily Happy Birthday, and having the cake that she picked out! My family is huge, so she had an entire choir singing to her!
On the way home, we had to stop at my parent's house, so they could give Lily her birthday gift. She opened her card first, and was so excited to find money in it. But that wasn't her big gift. She was even more excited when she opened a tablet case, and realized that she was getting her own tablet for her birthday. Her day was MADE!
Back at home, Lily ran off to play with her new birthday gifts! Even though she had to spend her entire day doing something else, she didn't mind one bit. But that's just Lily. She is incredibly sweet, kind, loving, compassionate, selfless, generous, smart, and funny, and we absolutely adore our Lily Bug!
