School's Out for the Summer - The Last Week of the School Year

School's Out for the Summer!

School's out for the Summer! Dylan, Lexie, Lily, and Liam had their last day of school on Friday. They are now joining me and baby Coen at home until September 9th. The last week of the school year was a busy one, and although the last day of school was bittersweet, my crew is excited about the Summer ahead!

This past week included a fun event in our little town, a school kindness celebration, middle school graduation and a dance, an 8th Grade class trip to Cedar Point, Liam's annual eye exam, an oil change and car shopping, Lily's last dance class, the last day of school, a baseball game, sleepovers, and fireworks. I wish we had a lazy week ahead of us, but Lexie was asked to represent the school's STEAM program during the school board meeting tonight, Lily has a practice for the dance recital finale tomorrow, the dance recital rehearsal is on Thursday, Liam has an early baseball game on Saturday, and Father's Day and the dance recital is on Sunday. Gone are those lazy Summer days!

We are only four days into Summer Break and I can tell it's going to be a busy one! Kids are entering and leaving our house in a continuous loop for sleepovers/playdates. Did I also mention that Coen is rolling over EVERY time I put him down to sleep, then gets angry and starts screaming? Sleep just isn't happening for either of us! So many moms say that Summer is actually busier than the school year, and that seems to be the case this year.

Here's a glimpse at the last week of 8th Grade, 6th Grade, 2nd Grade, and Kindergarten..

On Saturday, our town (Mars) had a special event called the Mars Exploration Celebration, in honor of New Years on Mars. Lexie was representing her school's STEAM program at one of the exhibits, and explaining how she designed and printed a 3D model of the town's spaceship in honor of her late grandfather, who was the mayor of Mars for over a decade. Each person from NASA who attended the event took home one of her designs as a souvenir.

On a funny note, Liam had a loose tooth and decided to pull it out in the car, on the way to the event. There was blood everywhere, and he decided to toss the tooth after he pulled it out. We never found it!

On Sunday, we had a lazy day. Everyone eventually made their way home, and prepared for the last week of the school year.

That evening, after the kids were in bed, my brother-in-law came over to watch the Deadwood movie with us. While we watched, Coen decided he was going to start rolling over and over again. Although he has rolled several times over the past few weeks, I finally caught it on camera!

The last Monday of the school year! After dropping the kids off at school, Coen and I went for a hike. Grant was home from work, so he ended up coming with us to pick up Liam from Kindergarten later that day. After school, I took Lexie to my sister's house so she could visit with my great niece again since she's in town from Georgia after being away for a full year. Lexie was devastated when her cousin and BFF moved so far away, so they have been spending as much time together as possible.

Tuesday was a busy day! The girls were so excited for the Kindness Celebration at school. It united grades 1-6 for the day, since they are divided into three buildings. Lily was so excited to see Lexie at the event! Everyone was tired after school, and ended up falling asleep for a few hours.

That evening was Dylan's 8th Grade Graduation and dance. We attended the graduation, then went home while Dylan rode the bus over to his school for the 8th grade dance. It was his first dance, and he had a lot of fun! I can't believe he's going to be in high school!

On Wednesday, Dylan went on his class trip to Cedar Point. It was unfortunately cut a few hours short due to thunderstorms, but he still had a great time! Meanwhile, back in PA, I spent the morning at the car dealership getting an oil change and discussing trading in our SUV, then I took Liam to his annual eye doctor appointment after Kindergarten. (He still has perfect vision!) We had a family night that evening, and Grant had to pick Dylan up late from his trip.

Thursday was another busy day! Liam woke up with a cold in the middle of the night, but seemed to be feeling well. After dropping the kids off at school, I headed to the store to finish buying end of year teacher gifts. Just as I pulled into the parking spot, the school nurse called to tell me Liam was very congested. I decided to pick him up, so I turned around and headed back to the school. He seemed perfectly fine, so we returned to the store to finish our errands, then Dylan texted to tell me he had a really bad headache. SO...I went back to the schools, and picked him up!

That evening, we headed to the dance studio for Lily's last dance class. Her third year of dance is coming to an end, and we're not sure what the plan will be for Fall. We'll see how she likes cheerleading, then go from there!

We made it to the last day of school! Dylan headed off first, then I drove the rest of my crew, and our friend to school. Coen and I went on one last hike alone that morning, then took his 13 Weeks photos. He is growing TOO fast!

Liam was the first to get out of school. He left with hugs from his wonderful teachers. His inclusion class will change, but his special ed teachers and therapists will hopefully stay the same in the Fall! I'm not going to lie - I'm sad that he will be at school ALL day in the Fall! Dylan was next to arrive home, and was followed by his sisters an hour later. We had a quick last day photoshoot before we all went in opposite directions!

Summer Break

I dropped Dylan off at his friend's house for a sleepover, then the rest of my crew headed to my parent's house for dinner. That evening, it was Lexie's turn to stay with them for a sleepover. We headed home late, and got everything ready for baseball the following morning.

Our first day of Summer Break was a great day! Our first stop was at Liam's baseball game. And this time, Liam actually had fun! It was such a relief! After playing on the playground for a bit, we headed back home.

Grant and Lily left to run errands, and Lexie came home from her sleepover. That evening, our friends came over, and my bestie and I headed out to get stuff for dinner and a Starbucks treat. When we got back, Lexie's friend came over for a sleepover, and we made Philly Cheesesteaks for dinner.

As dusk approached, I dropped Liam off at my sister's house, where my mom was dog-sitting. The rest of our crew (with the exception of Dylan who was staying at his friend's house another night), headed to our community park for the Community Days fireworks. It's one of the best shows in the area, and so cool to see! Baby Coen wore headphones, and was mesmerized by the bright lights! (And funny story - Dylan was actually at the fireworks, right behind us, and none of us realized it!)

When we got back from the fireworks, we made peanut butter chocolate chip brownies and watched movies with our friends. It was a perfect Summer day! It was also the day our sweet bonus baby turned 3 months old!

Most of our day was lazy after such a late night. At dinner time, Grant drove Lexie's friend home and picked Dylan up while I cooked dinner. After dinner, we picked my great niece, Aubrey, up and brought her to our house for a sleepover. The kids had a great time hanging out with their cousin, just like they used to. Saying goodbye again is going to be so hard!

School is out for the Summer, and we haven't slowed down one bit! Right now it's just everyday life chaos, so we're hoping to fit in more fun over the next few weeks. One thing is certain - there won't be a single dull moment this Summer!
