The First Week of the New Year

Mom Blog Weekly Recap - The First Week of the New Year

We are only six days into 2019, and my crew is exhausted! There was no easing back into a routine after a relaxing winter break. Instead, we just jumped back into it!

Reality hit on Wednesday. The kids headed back to school, Grant headed back to work, and the holiday bliss was over. Life returned to its usual busyness, complete with basketball practice, dance classes, appointments, early morning basketball games, family dinners, and birthdays!

Here's how the first week of the new year played out...

Tuesday, January 1st

After a very late New Year's Eve, we all slept in on New Year's Day. We went to my parent's house for a delicious New Year's Day dinner. Every year, my parent's get a New Year's pretzel from a local bakery, and it's delicious! After dinner, we headed back home to get ready for the week ahead.

AND...back to reality! Waking up at 6 AM was ROUGH, but Dylan headed to school at 6:40 AM, Grant headed to work at 8, and I drove the other three kids to school at 8:30. Then, to torture myself, I stopped by the lab to have my iron checked again. (Hello, anemia.) We were all dragging by that evening, but it was a basketball night. After dinner, Grant took Dylan to practice while I finished the evening chores and prepared for the next day.

Thursday, January 3rd

Thursdays are always another busy day for my family. After driving my kids to school, I stopped by the local park for a quick 1 1/2 mile walk. I recently learned that I CANNOT run anymore, because it triggers intense Braxton Hicks contractions. Walking is plenty for now! That evening, I took Lily to her two hours of dance classes, then we came home to eat a late dinner with the rest of the family. On Thursday, I reached 30 weeks of pregnancy, and the panic started to kick in. Here's hoping we can get everything ready for the baby before he makes his appearance! When we got home, the table was filled with baby gear from Grant's incredibly generous co-worker!

Friday, January 4th

After dropping off my kids at school on Friday, I went on my morning walk. I had just pulled into the driveway, when the nurse at Liam's school called to tell me that Liam had thrown up. I was very surprised, because he had never thrown up before...just spit up...and he was acting perfectly fine that morning. When I walked into the nurse's office, Liam was dancing and chatting away with the nurse. Even she said he didn't appear to be sick, and honestly, he was 100% fine from that point on! I think he played us!

We visited my parent's that afternoon. After dinner and a few rounds of cards, we headed back home while Lexie stayed behind for a sleepover. A few friends came over that evening, but we headed to bed earlier than we usually do, because basketball game season was beginning the following morning!

Saturday, January 5th

We were up very early on Saturday morning, and at the gym by 8:30 for Dylan's first basketball game of the season. The early games are rough, but we love watching him play! (Donuts definitely made it better!) We had a lazy day at home, before heading to my sister's house for a family dinner to celebrate my dad's birthday. That evening, we had friends over for game and TV night!

Sunday, January 6th

We were so exhausted by Sunday that we decided to cancel our plans for the day, and have a pajama day at home, instead! It was my dad's birthday, and he ended up stopping by to pick up a table we were getting rid of for my mom. We were very happy to see him on his birthday (even though we had seen him the previous three days)! He is a wonderful dad and an amazing papa, and we are so lucky to have him in our lives. Dylan ended up going home with him to help carry the table and have dinner with my parents, while the rest of my family had dinner, watched a few episodes of Fuller House, and got ready for the week ahead!

It was a busy first week of 2019! I would like to say that we are getting a break this week, but honestly, there's no end in sight. We have a full week ahead of us, but at least we're having fun along the way!

  2. Goodness! What a way to start the New Year off with a bang! I feel you on how busy this season of life is - it never seems to stop, does it? And yet, I'm trying (at 29 weeks pregnant) to savor it all - both good and bad - because it goes so darn fast! Cheers to a smooth week ahead, friend!
