How My Family Stays Active With Fitbit

Mom & Me Yoga

This post is sponsored by Kohl’s. I was paid for this post and received the included Fitbit as compensation.

Life with a big family is busy! After work, school, activities, and responsibilities in the home, there isn’t much time for anything else. Living a healthy, active lifestyle, however, is one of my family’s priorities!

It’s so important to teach children to make healthy choices and stay fit while they’re young, so healthy living becomes a lifelong habit. Just like everything else, it begins in the home. Kids learn by example! If we want to raise healthy, active kids, we have to be healthy, active parents!

Fitbit Versa

Recently, we became a Fitbit Family! Prior to receiving the Fitbit Versa Ruby, I didn’t even wear a watch. I wasn’t completely convinced that I would use it frequently, but I was wrong. I absolutely love it! I feel lost without it on my wrist, and I use it all the time. My family and I quickly learned that it’s easy and fun to stay in shape with Fitbit. It truly is such a great motivator!

Back To School Shopping Tips with Carter's at Kohl's

BACK TO SCHOOL Shopping Tips with Carter's At Kohl's #sponsored #GameOn #CartersAtKohls @Kohls @Carters

DISCLOSURE: This post is sponsored by Kohl’s. I received the included Carter’s clothes as compensation.

Just as it always does, Summer Break flew by! In just a few weeks, Dylan, Lexie, Lily and Liam will be heading back to school. I love having my kids home all Summer, so I’m feeling sad (and a bit in denial), but it’s officially time to start back to school shopping!

So many big changes are coming our way this year. Dylan will be starting middle school, which means school will start a full hour earlier. Lexie will be moving to a new school within the district for 5th and 6th grade. Now that Lily will be in first grade, she will be in school all day instead of half days like last year. And Liam, who is rocking an extra chromosome, will continue at his preschool with a new teacher,  AND start additional speech therapy. All of the change is very bittersweet for this mama!

Dealing with all of those changes is overwhelming enough, but thankfully, back to school shopping isn’t one of them. I now have a decade of back to school shopping behind me, and over the years, I learned exactly what we need, how much we should buy and where we should shop. With 4 kids, I need to have a battle plan before I shop, and find ways to save money! I no longer feel completely overwhelmed by that task, because I know from experience that it can be done!

I started our back to school shopping early this year, and I’m thrilled to say that I’m almost finished shopping for my younger two. (The two tweens, however, are a whole new ball game. And it’s not exactly a game I want to play!) Thanks to the adorable selection of back to school clothing from Carter’s, that is available at Kohl’s, Lily and Liam are ready to go back to school in comfort and style!

BACK TO SCHOOL SHOPPING TIPS

TAKE STOCK OF WHAT YOU HAVE.

Before you head out on your back to school shopping trip, find out what your child has left over from the previous school year, and make sure it still fits! Donate or pack away outgrown items, set aside anything that could still be used as play clothes, then write down what can still be worn for the upcoming school year.
MAKE A LIST!
Write a list of everything your child will need for the upcoming school year. My lists vary depending on which child I’m shopping for, but the back to school basics remain the same.

  • 10 pairs of underwear
  • 10 pairs of socks
  • 10 bottoms
  • 10 tops
  • Athletic shoes
  • Dress shoes
  • Raincoat/lightweight coat
  • 2 hoodies
  • Backpack
  • Lunchbox
  • Reusable cup
  • School Supplies

SHOP AT KOHL’S.

Kohl’s is your one stop shop for everything your family needs! I do most of our back to school shopping at Kohl’s each year. I can find clothing and shoes for my entire family, in popular styles that they love, and the prices can’t be beat. When I’m shopping for a family of six, I need to go where I get the most for my money!

Here are a few more reasons why I love to shop at Kohl’s:
  • Frequent sales!
  • Yes2You Rewards Program - I receive special coupons in the mail throughout the year.
  • Kohl’s Cash - During certain times you can earn $10 in Kohl’s cash for every $50 you spend.
  • Extra savings for Kohl’s credit card holders!

SHOP FOR ONE CHILD AT A TIME.

A few years ago, I tried to shop for all four of my kids at the same time, and I quickly learned my lesson. I was so overwhelmed, my kids were bored and irritable, it took forever, and we forgot so much that we had to go back another day.

Now I shop with one child at a time. It’s a much better experience for everyone involved, and my kids love the one on one time with me! We focus solely on purchasing their back to school items, and we are able to get it done quickly without the interruption caused by other siblings!

MEASURE THOSE LITTLE FEET!

Each year, while doing your back to school shopping, measure your child’s feet. It’s amazing how much they grow in just a few months over the Summer! If you’re going to be shopping online, you can easily measure your child’s feet at home. (Just search online for it!)

BUY ENOUGH CLOTHING FOR 10 DAYS.

Every parent is different, but this is my general rule of thumb. My kids always have additional clothing from previous seasons or hand me downs, but I aim to buy each of them enough new clothing for 10 days. That way, I’m not in a panic if I don’t get the all the laundry done, and it gives them plenty of options to rotate outfits.

TRY TO BUY COMPLETE OUTFITS OR COORDINATING SEPARATES.

I love it when I can find complete outfits for my kids, so I don’t have to search for matching items! Carter’s is one of those brands that always has complete outfits for sale. When the top and the bottom match perfectly, it makes my life easier!

Thankfully, Carter’s also has plenty of coordinating separates for sale. Most items within a particular line are designed to coordinate, so there are lots of options!

LOOK FOR CLOTHING THAT WILL GROW WITH YOUR CHILD AND ADAPT TO EACH SEASON!

Pants with adjustable waists (drawstring or interior belt) are a must, because my kids have tiny waists. Pants that can be folded up, then later unfolded as the child grows are a great option. Button down shirts that have sleeves that can be rolled up halfway or worn down are my favorite for transitioning between seasons!

Let Them Be Little {Featuring Spring Style from Carter's at Kohl's}

DISCLOSURE: This post is sponsored by Kohl’s.  I was paid for this post and received the included Carter’s clothing as compensation.

During my 12 years of motherhood, I learned one very important lesson: kids grow up far too quickly. I took all those little moments that make childhood so special for granted. I naively believed that time was on our side, but the harsh reality is that the magic of childhood was gone before I even realized it.

Thankfully, I learned that lesson with my two older kids. I can’t get those moments back, but I did get a second chance. I now embrace all the little moments with my toddler and kindergartener. I know from experience that childhood is fleeting, so I remind myself daily to live in the now and enjoy watching my little ones play.

I truly believe play is crucial for childhood development. Allowing kids to explore and use their imaginations is every bit as important as their education.  When my little ones aren’t in school, we make crafts, do science experiments, have fun with sensory play and block building, visit zoos, parks and museums, and spend plenty of time outdoors. Not only are they learning, exploring, and building important skills, but they are making memories together along the way!

Childhood should be fun and full of happy moments. I’m working hard to ensure that my kids have a childhood worth remembering and I’m savoring the moments spent with them. Allowing them to be little is the most important thing I can do for them right now!

Over the past two weeks, we traded our days spent with play dough and indoor toys for hours spent outside burning off pent up energy! Spring came early to Pittsburgh this year and we are loving it! We didn’t expect the warm weather streak to last, but it has, and I quickly discovered that my kids needed new Spring clothes.

Thankfully, my go to store had us covered! Kohl’s had all the latest Spring fashions, including the new Spring line from Carter’s.

Carter's

Carter’s has been with us every step along the way on this parenthood journey. I vividly remember when I found out I was expecting my first child. My husband and I weren’t planning on starting a family for 7 more years, so I was in shock.  I roamed the baby aisle at Kohl’s on my lunch break, and picked up a white sleeper covered in ducks.  It was Carter’s, and I ended up leaving Kohl’s with it tucked safely in a bag. It was the first thing I bought for my baby, and it was the first thing my son wore on his very first day of life.

Carter’s has been with us to welcome four babies into the world. They were with us for their first holidays. And they were with us for their first days of school.  Carter’s is a quality brand that I have always trusted. Their clothing is adorable and comfortable, and perfect for every occasion. Even more important, it’s a brand that’s durable enough to keep up with my active kids as they play!

This Spring, Lily and Liam are going to look extra cute thanks to Carter’s!  The pastel colors and fun patterns in the Spring collection are PERFECT. We’re thoroughly enjoying this early Spring weather and making lots of memories. So many exciting things are planned for the next few months, and Carter’s will be with us for each adventure!

Here’s how my family has lots of fun in the Spring:

I firmly believe in spending time outdoors almost every day, so we go to the playground several days a week. Carter’s clothing comfortably keeps up with my little explorers while they climb, slide and swing!

We never let a little bit of rain ruin our fun! The adorable Carter’s raincoats protect my busy kids from the wind and the rain, so they can keep playing.

World Down Syndrome Day is coming up on March 21st, and my homie with an extra chromie will be rocking his designer genes AND rocking his blue and yellow for Down syndrome awareness!

Now that it’s warm, we’re having lots of picnics outdoors. We often pack up a bag of books and toys, hike into the woods behind our home, find a clearing, and play on a blanket. Sometimes a simple change of scenery can be so refreshing, and make a bad day better again!

Carter's

I believe in surrounding our kids with pets and introducing them to a wide variety of animals by visiting farms and zoos. Caring for a pet and loving them can be an incredible learning experience for children.
We accidentally welcomed baby bunnies into our home almost two weeks ago, because our two pet bunnies were NOT both girls. Instead of treating it like a burden, we decided to make it a learning experience. Our kids get to watch the babies grow and help prepare them for their new forever homes! And one of them just might be staying with us!

Easter is coming up soon, and Lily is practicing for the big egg hunt and trying to teach her little brother the ropes. He hasn’t caught on just yet, but there’s still time! The excitement is building, and Lily and Liam are going to look SO cute in their coordinating Easter outfits from Carter’s!

Finally, it was time to dust off those scooters, bikes and outdoor toys and get active! Making daily exercise a regular part of our routine is key for forming healthy habits that will last a lifetime. An added bonus is that they have so much fun that they don’t even realize they’re working. And they certainly look cute will doing it!

If there’s one thing I could tell new parents, it would be this: Enjoy life with your kids right at this very moment. Let them be little. Encourage them to play and use their imaginations. But most important, enjoy THEM and capture the little moments that you’ll always want to remember. Childhood is something you can’t ever get back.
