Liam~One Month Old

155

MILESTONES:  Rolling over!  You are a very strong baby, and have been wowing us with your strength since you were born.  Just after you turned 4 weeks old, you rolled from back to belly!  You also began to show us your first smiles.

TOOTH COUNT: None.

COMFORTS:  Being swaddled.

FIRSTS:  First Labor Day.  We had a picnic with Daddy's family.  We also spent a lot of time with family and friends.

EATING: Mostly breastfed, but you are supplemented with a high-calorie formula due to weight loss.

SLEEPING:  You slept the entire month away!  You were very lethargic, which was one of the factors in your weight loss.

SOUNDS/WORDS: You squeaked while you nursed.  You sounded like a little mouse!

LIKES:  Being snuggled and warm.

DISLIKES:  Diaper changes, being cold, getting undressed, and taking baths. During diaper changes, you repeatedly rolled to your side, which led to us actually having to use the strap on your changing pad!

NICKNAMES:  Little Dude, Little Man, and Buddy.

HEALTH:  You had to go in for weekly weight checks.  By the end of your first month, you had lost over 1 pound.

STATS:  6 lbs 1 oz and 21.5 inches.

WEARING:  Preemie and Newborn clothing and Preemie and Newborn diapers.  Size 0 shoes are still too big for your tiny feet!

PERSONALITY: You are a very sweet, gentle, cuddly boy. You are very content, and love to snuggle in our arms. Your eyes are filled with so much sweetness that it takes my breath away!

Dear Liam,

Today you are one month old.  I can't even believe that a month has passed since you came into our lives.  The time passes by even quicker with each child that we welcome into the world!

One month ago we began a new journey with you.  Everything about you has been unexpected...from finding out you were joining our family to hearing the words "It's a BOY!!!" to finding out that you had Down Syndrome to learning that the unexpected can be the biggest blessing.

One month ago I placed you in the arms of your siblings and my tears of sadness turned to tears of joy.  My heart grew just watching the four of you together.  You were meant to join this family, and you have brought so much joy to our lives.

One month ago, in the middle of the night, I fell in love with you.  The nurse placed you in my arms and you opened your eyes, just begging to be loved, accepted, and cared for. I cried as I stared into your eyes.   And I loved.  Unconditionally, and with all my heart.

I have cried every single day since you came into our world.  I cry because I am so blessed. I cry because I am so thankful that God chose me to be your mom.  I cry because I love you so much that it makes my heart ache.

Happy 1 month, my beautiful, tiny, sweet, perfect baby boy!  You have taught us so much. You have captured the hearts of so many people, and you are LOVED.  I am so thankful to be on this journey with you.  I am so proud to be your mom.

I wish I could go back and relive the day you were born.  I wish I could go back and tell myself that it would all be okay.  Because it is.  You complete us.  You are mine.  You are my son.  I will love you fiercely and forever.

I love you with all my heart, Liam!

*Turning 1 month old is apparently exhausting.  He slept the day away, only waking to eat, but I still wanted to capture some pictures from the day he turned 1 month old.  Once we were ready for bed, he decided to wake up for a little while!
