Raising a Giving Child #EveryDayCare

One of my most important goals as a mother is to raise kind, loving, compassionate, giving children.

We are a giving family year-round, but we definitely put more emphasis on it during the holiday season. We always focus on Every day, care!

One amazing organization to get involved with is Habitat for Humanity! Over 85,000 families from around the world have been impacted by their services!

Did you know that Whirlpool has had a partnership with Habitat for Humanity since 1999? $90 million is Whirlpool's current commitment value.  In addition, 8,000+ Whirlpool employees volunteer their time to Habitat to Humanity each year! I love supporting companies who give back!

I'm going to be perfectly honest.  Teaching thankfulness can be difficult at times.  Many of my Dylan and Lexie's friends live in homes that cost between $500,000-$1,000,000.  That simply isn't the case for us.  We live off of one income so I can stay home with our children, and the trade off for that is a smaller home.  But it's ENOUGH.  We're blessed in so many ways!

We're always trying to show our kids that although the size of our home is a lot different than some of their friends' homes, we still have so much more than so many others in this world.  We have so much to give and it's important for us to show our children how we can help others in need!

My children NEED to know that there's more to life than all these first-world problems that surround them on a daily basis.

In order to do that, we give.  We give at every possible opportunity, and we give often.   It truly doesn't take much.  Simple daily acts of giving can make a world of difference!

Here are some of the ways we give back to our community:

*We donate at least $1 every time we're asked to donate from a retailer during checkout.

#EveryDayCare

*We buy small bags of pet food and we donate them to an animal shelter. We have also donated old blankets and towels to our local animal shelter.

*We donate to families we know who are in need of a little extra help.

*We donate money to organizations that help others.  (You can donate to Habitat for Humanity HERE.)

*We donate all of our gently used, outgrown clothing.  Dylan and Lexie just took in a few gently used coats for a coat drive at school.  We also donate toys that are no longer being played with.

*We put together backpacks full of new school supplies at the start of each school year.  Those backpacks go to students who don't have enough money to purchase the supplies they need.

*We buy presents for children in need during the holiday season.

*We pick up an extra can or two of food each week during our grocery shopping trip.  We donate those cans to food drives.

There are so many other ways in which we give, but all of these simple acts of kindness add up.  Our kids see the good that comes from giving, and they WANT to help others. It doesn't cost us much, and the effort is minimal.  In exchange, our children are learning valuable life lessons about the importance of helping others.

Because of their commitment to helping others, Whirlpool is a company that I support. Plus, they have some really awesome new appliances, which include these three gems, which can be purchased at hhgregg:

Do you have a Whirlpool appliance? What acts of Every day, care do you incorporate into your life?

Do you want to get involved with Habitat for Humanity?

Habitat for Humanity is ALWAYS looking for volunteers! Visit www.habitat.org/local to find opportunities in your area!

If you don't have the time to volunteer, but would like to donate, you can do so HERE.

  1. It's so great to incorporate your family into charity everyday. We work with the March of Dimes extensively, and I involve my kids whenever possible. My son also just did a fundraiser for his school, and he was so proactive about it, it made me really proud.
