Noteworthy

{1}  I always say that my life is always an adventure. Yesterday was no exception.  Lily had her 9 month checkup, and it was supposed to be simple.  When we got there, they pricked her toe to do a blood count.  No big deal.  She was then weighed and measured.  When the pediatrician walked into the room, she insisted on a remeasure because Lily was so tall that her height was off the chart.  They got the same measurement the second time around.  She's just really tall for her age, like her siblings always were!  After the exam, the pediatrician said she looked wonderful, and didn't need any shots.  I scheduled her 1 year appointment (OMG!), and as I was leaving, the pediatrician stopped us to tell us to head up to the lab because her blood count was really low.  She needed a blood draw for a complete blood count, and they decided to do her lead test then instead of making us return for it in 3 months.

Moving on to the lab...I held Lily as tight as I could, with the assistance of another lab tech, as the other tech began.  Needles make me squeamish, so I looked at Lexie while the needle went into Lily's arm.  Lily let out a wail, and Lexie's lip started to quiver.  Holding Lily still was really hard.  I felt so horrible!  The lab tech decided to stop after three sticks, and called for permission to just do a finger prick.   By that point, Lily was smiling again, and didn't even flinch as they did the finger prick.

After it was over, I had to apply pressure for a bit longer, because the lab tech said she was a "great bleeder."  They told us it was okay to go, so I loaded the girls into the car, and headed home.  I thought we were in the clear.  Then I heard the dreaded words.  "Mommy, Lily swallowed her bandaid and now there's blood all over her clothes and car seat!"

Always an adventure.

{2}  We are currently waiting on the results of that blood test.  The doctor thinks she's anemic, just like Lexie and I.  I missed her phone call today, so I'm waiting for her to return it.  I have to admit, I am worrying.  We went through so much blood work and tests when Lexie was younger, so it's hard not to!

{3}  Lily discovered she can stand on her own.

{4}  Dylan's class took care of guppies and terrariums for their science unit.  I gave permission for Dylan to bring home his guppy.  What does his teacher send home?  TWO guppies and two snails.  The guppies happen to be male and female.  The female is expecting.

I didn't sign up for this.

{5} I'm not enjoying baseball this year.  At all.  I loved the past two years, but I'm just not feeling it anymore.  Too demanding, and the coaches take it too seriously.

He does look cute in his uniform, but we may be looking for a new sport!

{6}  Today is Lexie's last regular day of Preschool.  Monday is her last (shortened) day.  The past 9 months flew by! My baby girl is so grown up!

  1. We had to do bloodwork on Henry to test for allergies when he was little and it was horrible. It took me and three nurses to hold him down and he was only a little over a year old! I disliked baseball so much that we quite after two years. They are serious about baseball around here. I always joke that every one of those kids' parents think their kid is going to play major league ball!

  7. I hate when the coaches get too serious about it. What happened to fun? I don't blame you for rethinking that sport.

I'm glad you have some basis for Lily's possible anemia issue, otherwise you may have been a lot more nervous about waiting for tests.

  9. Hopefully, it will be one test and done! What age do they start school there? We start at turning 4 by December 31. That means O was three and so will her little sister at schools start. A doesn't won't turn 4 until2.5 months into the school year and they go all day everyday. Egads.
