Kindergarten Bound

Today was Lexie's Kindergarten Preview. I have to say, I'm still in shock over the fact that she is old enough for Kindergarten! It seems like she went from baby to little girl in the blink of an eye.

It was very bittersweet for me. I feel like I completely missed the last year of her life. I got pregnant with Lily when she was still 3, and the entire year of her being 4 flew by. I don't feel like I got to really experience the last year with my baby being at home full time, because I was dealing with being extremely sick while pregnant, then having a baby, and then, BAM, it was time for Lexie to start Pre-K. I missed out on the remainder of her toddler days.

And suddenly? She is all grown up.

Lexie is typically shy and cautious until she feels comfortable. Once comfortable, she doesn't stop talking! I have been very worried about sending her to Kindergarten, worried that it would be very difficult for her. Academically, she's excelling, but I don't want her to worry or be sad. I still think of her as my baby, because she was my baby for 4 1/2 years. I know I have to let go, but it is just so hard.

Today, she did great. She is starting to come out of her shell and feel comfortable in a school setting. She has been to the Primary Center several times with us for Dylan's events, but today it was all about her. She got to tour the building, see a Kindergarten classroom, play in the gym, create an art project, and listen to a story and color a bookmark in the library. She was quiet, but participated in everything, and willingly left our side. I was so proud of how far she's come, emotionally. She's such a big girl now.

I'm not quite ready to let her go.

  2. I am going through these emotions with T. And since she's my first "baby", I'm really beside myself. Kindergarten round-up for her school is next month.

I bet she's gonna do amazing in Kindergarten. She'll probably be miss popular who everyone wants to be her friend!

I'm so thankful we homeschool, I would NOT be ready to send Peanut off in the fall.

  4. When O started, I wasn't ready. She was. I'm still in shock that I have two in school! Aubie's two, she starts Sept 2013, she'll still be 3 for the first 2.5 months of school. That makes me sad too.

  8. You will love Kindergarten. She will come home every day excited to show you projects and tell you everything she learned and all about her new friends. Kindergarten here in Ca is only half day so it was nice to ease into it.
