Our Five Ring Circus: Whirlwind

Whirlwind

Today was one of those days where I jumped out of bed running and didn't stop until the kids were in bed.

It started with a rude awakening. It was the only day of the week that I could sleep in, and that didn't happen. I got a text right after Grant left for work, informing me that my horse was due for his shots today, instead of in September, like we thought. The vet would be at the stable, which is 15 minutes away, in, oh, 5 minutes. I frantically jumped out of bed and tried to figure out what to do. Thank goodness my Dad was able to run a check to the stable for me, because we would have never made it in time!

Next rude awakening? The same shots and exam that cost $62 last April, cost $125 today. Ouch! Inflation or complete rip off?

Once the morning rush was complete and Dylan was on the bus, I was finally able to get a shower, and then Lexie and I had to do errands that had been building up throughout the week. Bank, PetSmart for pet food, TJ Maxx for a birthday gift, Kohls for an Easter shirt for Dylan. By the time we got home, it was time to get Dylan off the bus. So much for the housework that I had to do!

Right after Dylan and Grant got home, we piled into the car for baseball practice. His practices start so early this year-at 5:00-but it's better than the late slot which would completely throw off bedtime. It's frustrating though, because there is no time for dinner beforehand, and our evenings are so rushed.

Today's practice overlapped with Open House at Dylan's school, so Lexie and I went along. The baseball field that we're assigned to is still flooded from the rain, so practice was at the high school basketball courts...which were already in use, due to the beautiful weather. We ended up in a nasty, muddy field, with nowhere to sit. Lexie and I ended up spending an hour and a half in the car.

After practice, we headed across the street for Dylan's Open House. First of all, Open House at the end of the school year seems pointless. Second, it was PACKED. We had to park at another school, walk to the building, and we could barely move through the halls. I really think it needs to be planned better next year!

Dylan was really excited to show us around (even though we've been there many times already), give us a tour of his classroom, and show us his art work and projects. It was really nice to see what he has been working on, and Lexie really enjoyed the tour!

There is a book fair going on this week at his school, and earlier in the week, I had promised that they could each pick out a book before we left. Unfortunately, the book fair was so packed that we couldn't even look around, and the line to check out was insanely long. We ended up walking out of the school with two very disappointed kids. Honestly, I hate disappointing my kids, especially when a promise is involved.

At that point, I decided it was time to treat the kids to McDonald's for dinner. I had no urge to go home and cook, and the unexpected treat cheered the kids up!

By the time both kids were in bed, it was already 8:45-over an hour past bedtime! And here I sit...exhausted, frustrated, and overwhelmed. Nothing went as planned today!

***Sorry for the vent. I'm just feeling very overwhelmed by everything today, and the constant morning sickness doesn't help. I'll be back to my happy, perky self tomorrow!
