Not An Ordinary Snow Day

Today was Dylan's first snow day, and although it was a terrible day (for me-details below), the kids loved it!

Yesterday, we were under a storm watch. I sent Dylan to school, but shortly after he left, the snow started. I am really surprised his school district didn't dismiss early, because the roads were absolutely terrible!

I waited for a half hour for his bus to arrive. Grant left work early, to avoid all the traffic, and arrived home before Dylan did. I wasn't relieved until my boy climbed off the bus!

Once our family was safe inside, we made the most of getting snowed in. We all put on our pajamas, put an easy dinner in the oven, and cuddled up on the couch to watch Megamind.

After the movie, a spontaneous dance party ensued. The kids were so wound up, that it was hard to convince them to go to bed!

I can't think of a better way to spend an evening snowed in with my family!

Before bed, we got the call that Dylan's school had a 2 hour delay. By this morning, they changed it to a closing. Honestly, I'm not sure why. The roads were fine by late morning, and we got less than 6 inches of snow. Either way, Dylan was thrilled!

Today wasn't great, though. I spent the entire day worrying. My dad was scheduled to go in for a procedure to check his heart. The doctors were convinced that they'd end up doing a simple surgical procedure after they checked everything out. I spent the entire morning waiting for updates.

Meanwhile, I got a phone call from one of my sisters, telling me that two of my sisters and my nephew were in a car accident, and headed to the ER. More waiting. My nephew was the first one to be released, and my sisters were just released. Thank God they are okay, other than some minor injuries!

Unfortunately my dad's simple procedure didn't go as expected. He will now need a triple bypass. He has pre-surgical tests scheduled for next Wednesday, and they will schedule his surgery then. He will spend almost a week in the hospital, followed by a 6 week recovery. A month after he recovers, they will do another surgery to unblock his carotid arteries.

I am trying to hold it together, but it's hard. It's my dad. He's the strongest person I know. The next few weeks are going to be incredibly difficult for my family, so please keep us in your thoughts and prayers.

Moving on...No snow day would be complete without actually spending time in the snow!

Dylan and Lexie really need to learn a lesson: If they tease big dog, big dog will knock them down the hill! Case in point:

It was cold and windy, but the kids had so much fun!

I think Dylan's hoping for another snow day!

  4. I will be thinking about you guys as your Dad heads into surgery. If you need anything, please let me know. I, more so than others, can sympathize with all the Dad worry and understand how hard it is to have a sick Dad while you are pregnant. Prayers for a quick recovery.

  7. Oh, I'm so sorry that your dad has to have surgery. When my dad was in his early 50's we found out he needed a quadruple bypass, and my sister and I about died. It was a super scary day, and rough time after, and I thought he'd never look my strong dad again. That was years ago, and he is healthier and feels better than ever. I will be praying for you and your dad!

  8. Oh gosh, I know just how you feel, my Dad is my world. I will be thinking of you all and praying that everything goes successfully and smoothly as possible for him.

I am also thankful that your sisters and nephew are okay. I hope you are resting now because I know that stress like that (especially on top of a new pregnancy) can wear you out.

  9. Many prayers for all of your family members. My dad had a triple (maybe quadruple?) bypass surgery in 2005. The recovery was long, but he did great. It's amazing what surgeons can do!

  18. I can't believe they closed the school with only 6 inches of snow. We used to have to get 2 feet before they would close the schools! I am seeing snow EVERYWHERE on the blogs and I am missing it so much!
Many prayers for you and your family!
