True Story Tuesday-Time To Move

Welcome to True Story Tuesday! Head on over to Once Upon a Miracle for more True Stories!

My story happened almost 6 years ago. I can laugh about it now, but at the time, I was shocked. I have to admit, the picture I'm about to describe is still vivid in my mind.

In September of 2004, my husband and I were still living in our first house. It was a very small house, and the houses surrounding us were filled with bachelors (or losers) that spent their days and nights drinking and partying.

It was a good first house...but definitely a temporary one. We did not fit in with our neighbors!

At the time, I was pregnant with Dylan, and we were actively looking for a bigger house.

That month, the aftermath of a hurricane caused major flooding in Pittsburgh areas. Many people lost their homes or businesses, including my parents. Houses that never even flooded before ended up with major damage.

There was a small creek near our house, and it flooded, as well. Luckily, our house was on a small hill, and was spared from the flooding. All of our neighbors homes flooded. Instead of being upset by this, they partied.

I'm not even kidding. They waded through nasty, waist-high water, drinking beer and laughing. They canoed down the road. They were having a blast.

That day, I had seen my parent's house. It was destroyed, and filled with more than 2 feet of water. I was so worried about my parents, and unsure of what they were going to do. I was mourning the loss of the house I grew up in. I was 25 weeks pregnant, still throwing up, and having contractions. I went to bed, feeling completely miserable.

Early the next morning, I took my dog outside. I was still half asleep, and didn't have my contacts in, so my surroundings were a blur. My dog, Morgan, suddenly stopped on her descent into the yard. She began quietly barking. I walked over to see what she was barking at, and was absolutely stunned.

The water had receded, leaving behind an inflatable pool raft in our yard. On the raft was my neighbor. Completely passed out. In his underwear.

I turned on my heel, called my dog into the house, climbed back into bed, and told my husband. "We have to move. Now."

Three weeks later, we did just that. We left the bachelor party behind, and moved into a respectable house to raise a family in. No partially-naked men on pool rafts have been spotted here.
