Back in the Saddle Again

I'm not going to even admit how long it's been since I last rode my horse. Up until today, it was just short visits to the barn to groom Cherokee and give him treats. I always have my kids with me, because they want to see our horse, and it was just too hard to keep them distracted while I rode. So I focused on letting them ride. Until today.

I finally got Dylan on Cherokee's back. He used to ride every so often, but he wasn't a big fan of it. He just didn't want to be outdone by his baby sister today! ;)

Lexie rode for about ten minutes, and then Dylan wanted to ride. She was so ticked that somebody else was riding HER horse and didn't hesitate to tell me just that! So I stuck her on with Dylan for one final lap around the loop.

And then I rode!

I'm not quite sure how I managed to get away with it. I'm guessing it was the fact that I let the kids play in the giant mud puddle. (You can see Dylan in the background in the first picture.) They ended up completely muddy, but it was well worth it. They stayed occupied just a few feet away from me, and I got to ride for about a half hour!

It was...wonderful! Exhilarating! I could feel the smile spreading across my face. I feel at home on Cherokee's back, and oh, how I've missed riding! He missed it, too. He was ready to go, and started happily snorting after we cantered around for a bit. When I climbed down, he rubbed his face all over my back...just like old times. I have missed this so much!

I left the barn, promising Cherokee that I would return soon for another ride. And this time, I will!

  2. Sounds great! Don't let her buck you or run off with you or anything else scary! (Not that I am scared of horses or anything!)

  4. I miss riding horses. I am allergic but it never stopped me!! I haven't ridden since I moved to the East coast 4 years ago. I need to find a place out here where I can do that, even if I have to "rent" one!
